The RFF-CMCC European Institute on Economics and the Environment is a research institute co-founded in 2018 by RFF and CMCC. The Institute’s mission is to improve environmental, energy, and natural resource decisions through impartial economic research and policy engagement. EIEE promotes a highly interdisciplinary, international and collaborative research experience. The institute is committed to high academic standards, as testified by 6 ERC grants won by EIEE researchers.

EIEE is encouraging applications by computational climate economists/scientists interested in working on high-stakes climate issues. Research topics include climate policy evaluation though big data, technological change and innovation, the distributional impacts of climate damages and policies, the labour market implications of the climate transition, and experimental approaches of behavioural economics. The ideal candidate for this position holds (or is close to completing) a PhD in economics, energy engineering, data science, applied mathematics or statistics, or related areas of research; and shows a strong track record in quantitative methods (machine learning, computational methods, etc.).

Duties will be carried out in Milan (Italy) in the vibrant design district (@BASE). The selected candidate will interact with researchers of different research background and nationalities. She/he will focus on writing top quality scientific papers, will be engaged in a global network, and will have the chance to present at major conferences. EIEE promotes a collaborative working place environment that values diversity, tolerance, and equity. We strive to maintain the institute gender balance and international diversity.

Assignments are expected to begin in the first half of 2022. The appointment period will be initially of one year, renewable for two additional years. The gross salary will be based on qualification and working experience and competitive with major research centres in Europe.

When required in the application form, the applicants should upload a detailed curriculum vitae with the list of publications, the job market paper (or a writing sample), and two references' contact information. Applied researchers doing data analysis or coding are also encouraged to attach or point to code example (max. two pages of any *.do/* .R/*gms /*.py/*.m/*.jl code written by the applicant).

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted and will then be required to submit two letters of recommendation. Interviews will be conducted on the European Job Market (EJME) 2021 and on a rolling basis until the position is filled. For any further information or clarification, please contact job@eiee.org.

Deadline: December 8th, 2021
