The Department of Economics of the University of Zurich invites applications for the position of a Predoctoral Fellow in Economics. The Predoctoral Fellow will work on projects in the fields of labor, gender, innovation, and environmental economics under the supervision of Prof. Anne Brenøe and Prof. David Hémous. Currently, ongoing projects study gender inequalities within firms, early childhood interventions or the effect of automation on employment outcomes. The position is partly financed with an ERC starting grant on Automation.
The position offers an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in developing cutting-edge empirical research. We expect to involve the candidate in different stages of research. Specific responsibilities include obtaining, organizing and cleaning data, analyzing data using statistical software, presenting results, writing documentations and reports, and supporting an ongoing field experiment.
Job Qualifications:

Education: This position is usually filled by those with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in economics, social sciences, public policy, mathematics, statistics, or related fields. Training in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and statistics is required.

Experience: Candidates should have hands-on experience with statistical software notably Stata. Formal post-undergraduate professional experience is not required.

Time Management: Proven ability to handle several different projects/tasks at one time, successfully complete tasks assigned, and meet deadlines. A willingness to work hard, be self-motivated, and learn will be essential for doing well in this position.

Communication: Good oral and written communication skills in English.

The predoctoral position is a full-time commitment. It combines research work with learning activities and is ideal for a recent graduate who is interested in going on to do a PhD in Economics.
This position has a flexible start date in the spring or early summer 2022. The appointment will be for one year and may be extended by one additional year.
