About the Lab:

The AI-Econ Lab (AIEL) at Örebro University, Örebro, Sweden, is an international and interdisciplinary research lab that spans several countries and disciplines, including economics, computer science and statistics. Our focus is on how rapid progress in artificial intelligence (AI) changes the nature of work and especially for white collar workers and in services.

Position Description:

For a new research project in the field of AI and the labor market, we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher in economics, statistics, or computer science. The project studies organizations' and employees' exposure to and adaptation to different types of AI in several countries and for decades. We will combine methods from economics, statistics and computer science and use a unique and comprehensive data material at the micro level. The duties are about being involved in the research process, from processing microdata, over designing, conducting and interpreting comprehensive quantitative analyses of the microeconomic effects of AI, to report the results by writing / co-authoring manuscripts for high-quality scientific journals. The duties for this position include doing them in close collaboration with the responsible project manager and in collaboration with other related researchers. You are also expected to actively contribute to the research environment at the lab.

We are looking for you who, in addition to a relevant doctoral degree, also have previous experience of and very good ability to handle and microeconometrically analyze large databases. This includes previous experience and a very good ability to work with large data sets in, for example, Stata and SQL / Python, as well as to use microeconometric methods, preferably in combination with machine learning. Your background can predominantly be in labor economics or in quantitative analysis using machine learning techniques. A background in international economics or technological development / innovation can also be an advantage. Experience of working with administrative data and text-based analysis is an advantage.

You should also have and demonstrate:

• Motivation to conduct internationally competitive research

• A strong mathematical background

• A track record of high-quality manuscripts / publications in labor economics, machine learning, international economics or technological development / innovation

• A strong interest in the project's research area

• Excellent ability to conduct empirical research

• Excellent programming and data management skills

• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

We also place emphasis on your personal qualities, your own scientific drive and curiosity, ability to work independently, in a structured way, and accurately within agreed time frames.

This is a fixed-term full-time position for two years. Funding is provided through a scholarship from a Swedish research foundation and via the research institute Ratio, Stockholm, Sweden.
