The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) invites applications for the position of Economist/Senior Economist in its Monetary and Economic Department (MED). We are looking for recent PhDs as well as candidates with professional experience to join our team.

The BIS serves as a forum for global central bank cooperation. Located at the hub for the world’s central banking community, MED’s economists conduct research and analyse policy issues. Their work attracts a worldwide audience of senior policymakers in central banks and supervisory authorities, researchers in academia and in the policy world, as well as financial market professionals.

In this role, you would be engaging in innovative research on topics of relevance for central banks and regulators, contributing to the drafting of policy notes for meetings of central bank officials, serving in policy working groups and committees, and advising senior management on issues within their field of expertise.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • a PhD in economics or finance, preferably in the areas headlined;
  • a strong interest in policy-oriented research;
  • a proven track record in identifying and addressing complex policy issues;
  • and excellent writing and communication skills in English.
