The Department of Economics at WU Vienna University of Economics and Business invites applications in Development Economics for a 100% (40 hours/week) Assistant Professor position, tenure track (post-doc, employee subject to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Staff - Angestellte/r gemäß Kollektivvertrag für die Arbeitnehmer/innen der Universitäten). The position is expected to begin on September 1, 2023. The gross monthly salary, paid 14 times per year is €4.061,50. Under the terms of the WU personnel development plan, the position of Assistant Professor, tenure track, is limited to an employment period of not more than six years. A qualification agreement can be concluded after a contract duration of two years (§ 27 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement). Once all objectives agreed upon in the qualification agreement have been fulfilled, the employment relationship can be made permanent. Employees who have successfully completed a qualification agreement are classified as associate professors. From an organizational regulation perspective they belong to the group of professors. Three years after successful completion of the qualification agreement, they are entitled to apply for promotion to full professor according to the By-Laws of WU § 43a.
The Department of Economics offers an active and internationally oriented research environment. The successful candidates’ research focus should be on Development Economics. You will join the faculty of the Department of Economics and are expected to provide a good fit to its current research environment, as well as to cultivate excellence and contribute to the research, teaching, and service activities in the department.

Applicants must either have completed their PhD or doctoral program outside of Austria or must have completed at least one year of documented academic work experience as a post-doctoral researcher outside of Austria. Knowledge of German is not required at the time of employment. However, non-German speaking applicants are expected to acquire a working knowledge of German thereafter.
