The Institute of Economics (IdEP) at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) in Lugano, Switzerland, invites applications for one post-doctoral research position in the context of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) project: “Health and economic consequences of low-value mental health care”. Project leader: Prof. Fabrizio Mazzonna.

The aim of the project is to compare long-run health and labor market outcomes of individuals receiving different mental health treatments. The project takes advantage of a unique dataset which combines individual level (Dutch) administrative data on health insurance expenditures, demographic information, and tax registry, with general practitioners’ data encompassing patient-level information about diagnoses and prescriptions. The research team also includes Prof. Joachim Marti (University of Lausanne) and Prof. Pieter Bakx (Erasmus University of Rotterdam).

The successful candidate is a young researcher holding (or being close to completing) a PhD in Economics. (S)he will conduct independent research while concurrently contributing to the main research project.

Knowledge of Italian is not a requirement. Previous experience with Dutch administrative data is considered as a plus.

The Institute of Economics at USI offers an exciting research environment, competitive terms and conditions, and generous research support. The contract is for two years with annual salary according to the SNF guidelines (CHF 80,000 - 85,000). The successful candidate can extend the contract by participating in competitive funding opportunities through career funding projects (e.g., SNF Ambizione, Marie Curie, etc.). The University provides support in the application procedures.

Applications received by December 1, 2022 will be given priority. The starting date is

September 1, 2023, but an earlier or later date is also possible.

Interviews will be conducted online at the European Job Market (EJM) on December 12-14, 2022 until the position is filed.
