STATEC Research is looking for a researcher to join the research division of the Statistical Office of Luxembourg (STATEC). This is a full-time position based in Luxembourg. The initial appointment is for two years, with the possibility of extension. We offer an attractive salary and research allowance. Junior researchers are preferred, but we will also consider candidates at a more advanced stage in their careers.
STATEC Research contributes research to the national policy debate and international scientific community. The team aims to understand Luxembourg's social and economic development in a comparative perspective, focusing primarily on applied research in the fields of entrepreneurship, productivity, and well-being.

The successful candidate will provide policy-relevant evidence on the causes and consequences of subjective well-being and/or ill-being, related methodological research, and/or contribute research on social indicators and the measurement of societal progress. The main responsibilities of this position are: contributing substantive research on subjective well-being, supporting the networking activities of the Division, participating in national and international competitive grant proposals, cooperating with colleagues inside and outside STATEC with special attention to environmental issues, social capital, entrepreneurial studies, and productivity analysis. The candidate will contribute to develop and co-create a research agenda in the area of subjective well-being more broadly.
Main tasks/responsibilities are to:
Undertake quantitative research on subjective well-being and/or ill-being to provide policy-relevant evidence for Luxembourg (not exclusive to but relevant for Luxembourg);
Contribute to reports, executive summaries and short articles on well-being in Luxembourg, alone and in comparative perspective, over time and across countries:
Disseminate research findings to the scientific community and wider audiences, including public officials and policy makers;
Participate in a collaborative research environment, such as joint research projects, outreach activities, seminars, and grant proposals;
Contribute to the development of the Division’s well-being research agenda.
We seek someone with the following traits:
The potential to contribute to the academic literature on subjective well-being;
Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, especially in the analysis of survey data;
Good organisational skills, intrinsically motivated and able to meet deadlines;
Excellent interpersonal skills;
Ability to work both as part of a team and independently;
Strong written and oral communication skills in English - the working language of the Division; French and/or German is an advantage.
Candidates should have a PhD in social sciences with a strong quantitative background. Experience and/or interest in environmental issues, social capital, entrepreneurial studies, and productivity analysis is an advantage. A PhD in economics is a distinct asset, though we will consider highly skilled candidates that have substitute skills and/ or experience.
