As part of a Research and Technology Organization (RTO), the work of the Environmental Research and Innovation (ERIN) Department tackles some of the major environmental challenges our society is facing today such as adaptation to climate change, ecosystem resilience, sustainable energy systems, efficient use of renewable resources, environmental pollution prevention and control.

To this end, the mission of the ERIN department is:

(1) To conduct impact-driven scientific research and development, as well as technological innovation;

(2) To support companies in the implementation of new environmental regulations and advise governments on determining sustainable policies for the future, with the objectives of:

• Analysing, managing, and exploiting sustainable resources (water, air, soil, renewable energy, bioresources)

• Reducing the environmental impact of human consumption and production activities

How will you contribute?

As member of ERIN’s Director’s office, your main duties as a Research Project Officer are to:

· Support the Principal Investigators (PI) in the submission and the management of their projects and activities.

· Reduce project risks in terms of administrative, contractual, and financial management

· Monitor in close collaboration with the PI the expenses, revenues of the project to avoid any deviation

· Ensure that project management good practices are implemented according to the LIST processes, project management best practices as well as the project specifics

The Research Project Officer is the privileged partner of the PI in all aspects related to project management and interfaces with the different corporate LIST services. Under the responsibility of the department Director, you will have the following duties:

Project management

· Contribute to the preparation (among others budget preparation, administrative quality check) and submission of projects

· Monitor the progress of the projects and provide the necessary administrative/financial/contractual support in collaboration with corporate services

· Manage the relation with the external coordinator of projects (H2020, LIFE, Interreg, …) and with funding agencies

· Process and respond to the information requests of the PI

· Collect the necessary information for the billing, account closing, statements and reports addressed to the funding sources

· Put in place project documentation and update information systems

· Implement procedures to harmonize the different process steps

· Organize and prepare project related meetings as well as the closing and archiving of projects

· Participate in project audits

Project portfolio management and budget preparation

· Monitor the unit/group project portfolio and prepare unit/group project reviews

· Deliver dashboards and reports for the monitoring of the department’s projects portfolio

· Participate in annual budget preparation

You will also contribute to:

· The definition, implementation and application of new procedures and project management tools

· The fulfilment of the collective objectives of the Director’s Office

· The identification of the specific needs of the PI and the definition of solutions, in close collaboration with the other LIST services

Educational background and experience

· Higher education degree in project management, business administration or in a technical or scientific area

· At least 5 years of experience in project management or in the domain of research, finance, administrative environment

· Trained in project management techniques, methods and tools, especially in financial project management and accounting

· Experience with:

o The research environment

o The rules of the various research funding agencies

o The forms of intellectual property protection

o SAP is considered as an asset

Skills

· Customer-oriented and solution-oriented

· Be autonomous and detail oriented, possess strong organizational and coordination skills

· Good interpersonal skills

· Successfully manage stressful situations and priorities.

· Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English is mandatory

· Good knowledge of Office suite, especially of Excel (e.g., pivot tables)

· A good level of French is an asset

· Submission and management of European projects is considered as an asset
