Position Description

The Economics Department seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor committed to conducting outstanding research and teaching in the areas of race, gender, inequality, and social justice economics.

We welcome candidates from various fields, including development, labor, health, education, criminal justice, macroeconomics and others, who are engaged in research on these topics.

During the first year in this position, the successful candidate will also hold the title of Provost’s Distinguished Faculty Fellow. The Provost’s Distinguished Faculty Fellowship program is in its third year at Georgetown University. This program is designed to bring in a cohort of new faculty from a wide range of backgrounds who demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Provost’s Distinguished Fellows are on the tenure track and will be exempt from teaching and service duties in the first year of their appointments, and will devote their full-time effort to building their research program. Fellows will be assigned senior faculty mentors by their home departments/schools.

Subsequent to the initial year, the regular teaching load will consist of 1-2 courses per semester, spanning both undergraduate and graduate levels. The new faculty member will also instruct undergraduate courses related to social justice topics.

The demonstration of a commitment to academic excellence and diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching/mentoring, research, and/or service. This commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion can be demonstrated in many ways, including those whose scholarship/teaching focuses on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and/or those who have demonstrated a commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion through their service activities.

Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Economics is required prior to appointment start date. Candidates must show strong promise of excellence in teaching as well as research.
