One Assistant Professor (“Profesor Ayudante Doctor”) position is open in the Economics Department at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Departamento de Análisis Económico https://www.ucm.es/fundamentos-analisis-economico2). In addition to this position, the department supports applications for 2-5 years postdocs subject to competitive funding awarded by public and private institutions in Spain. Formal Requirements before the application deadline:

- Completed (not expected) PhD from a relevant research institution at the application stage for the Assistant Professor position. For candidates with doctoral degrees awarded by a non-Spanish institution, a degree equivalence certificate is required (see details in https://edoctorado.ucm.es/solicitud-de-equivalencia).

- At least intermediate Spanish. For non-natives, proficiency in Spanish will be assessed in the interview although a language certificate is no longer required.

What we expect from candidates:

- Research: publications in leading journals in your field and dissemination in conferences and media or evidence of potential to publish; ability to lead research projects and secure competitive research funding; organise research events in your field.

- Teaching: ability to convey teaching material in a rigorous and engaging way to students (undergraduate and master level), with a maximum of 6 hours per week on average and possibility to negotiate whether teaching is concentrated in a term or spread throughout the year. Teaching areas include an array of courses in economic theory (macro and micro), mathematics and econometrics or field courses such as quantitative finance, industrial organization, game theory, environmental economics, etc.

CUNEF Universidad is seeking candidates for tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level in the Departments of Economics, Finance and Accounting, Quantitative Methods, and Social Sciences and Humanities.

The position is offered as a six-year "lector" contract. Promotion to a tenured position requires obtaining the relevant accreditation ("agregat" from AQU or "titular" from ANECA) and may take place after three years as a "lector". The current gross annual salary for a "lector" is €40,061 and is supplemented by research and teaching recognition programs. The annual teaching load, spread across two semesters, is typically between 100 and 150 hours, depending on course enrolment.

As a general rule, candidates should have a European Union citizenship, although there are a few exceptions to this. To apply for a tenured civil servant position, candidates who have completed their Ph.D. thesis abroad must have their doctoral degree homologated or at least received the equivalence in Spain. Equivalence is a simplified procedure that certifies, for academic purposes, that the training completed to obtain a foreign master’s or doctoral degree is comparable to that required in Spain, both in terms of level and in relation to a specific academic area and field. For reference, the process of obtaining the equivalence of a foreign Ph.D. degree can take up several months. Hence, the process should be started before there is a call announcing new positions.

If you need the recognition of equivalence of your doctoral degree, the body responsible for issuing it will be any Spanish public or private university, provided that the university offers a doctoral program comparable to the one for which recognition is sought. Some of the documents to be submitted will require an official translation into Spanish and might require legalization. Within the European Union, the translation of public documents of a Member State is not required when they are accompanied by a standard multilingual form. The legalization must be carried out by the Spanish consular office in the country where the document was issued, except in the case of countries that are signatories of the Hague Convention, where legalization is replaced by the apostille, issued by the competent authorities of the country of origin. Neither legalization nor apostille is required for academic documents issued by EU Member States, signatories to the EEA Agreement or Switzerland.
