CY Cergy Paris Université invites applications for a fully funded three-year Postdoctoral Researcher position at the Thema research center, starting as soon as possible.

The successful candidate will join the HARMONIC project (https://pepr-mobidec.fr/harmonic), an ambitious interdisciplinary research program developing next-generation decision tools for sustainable mobility, freight transport, land use, and climate policy evaluation. The project (and funding of the post-doc position) ends August 31, 2029.

The position offers the opportunity to work with André de Palma and Laurent Gatineau in a highly international and research-active environment (7 research laboratories are involved).

Research Responsibilities

The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the following tasks:

  • Development and calibration of the METROPOLIS2 transport model (https://metropolis2.org/),
  • Integration of METROPOLIS2 with EUrbanSim land-use model,
  • Construction of synthetic populations (households, individuals, freight vehicles),
  • Analysis of congestion, accessibility, and behavioural responses,
  • Estimation of local and global CO₂ emissions,
  • Policy evaluation of Low Emission Zones, fleet electrification, rail investment, and land-use regulation,
  • Preparation of academic publications and conference presentations,
  • Coordination with partner research centers in a national research consortium and participation in the annual reports, and to other deliverables (2 other deliverables per year on average).

Applications focus on Île-de-France and Strasbourg metropolitan area.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a PhD in economics, transportation, urban economics, econometrics, data science, or a related quantitative field, by the starting date.

Preferred qualifications include: strong empirical or modelling skills; Python programming; econometrics/statistics; interest in transport, cities, climate, and/or public policy; ability to work in an interdisciplinary and international team.

The candidate must be fluent in French before the starting day. Interviews will be conducted both in English and French.

Compensation

Salary is competitive and follows French public-sector postdoctoral scales, with full social benefits.

The Institute for Macroeconomic and International Policies (I-MIP) is a research center located in Paris, hosted by the Paris School of Economics (PSE) and supported by both PSE and the Center for Economic Research and Applications (CEPREMAP). I-MIP focuses on analyzing and quantitatively assessing public policies using state-of-the-art economic methodologies, with a particular emphasis on numerical techniques.

I-MIP invites applications for the position of policy-oriented macroeconomist, to be filled through a competitive selection process. The successful candidate should demonstrate expertise in macroeconomics, dynamic stochastic general equilibrium models (DSGE and HANK), and advanced computational methods for quantitative policy analysis, including Python, MATLAB, and Dynare. A strong interest in policy issues related to the French economy is essential. The ability to read and work with documents in French would be a valuable asset, particularly for contributing to the annual assessment of France’s Finance Act.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must hold a PhD in Economics.
  • A strong foundation in macroeconomic modeling, applied econometrics, and programming is essential.
  • Demonstrated expertise in these areas will be highly valued.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other I-MIP researchers on policy evaluation projects and contribute to the enhancement and maintenance of I-MIP's quantitative tools, in particular the HANK models of the French economy.
  • Engage in teamwork and cooperate with I-MIP economists and affiliated researchers.
  • Contribute to the policy evaluation work conducted by I-MIP while also pursuing independent research, benefiting from the stimulating research environment at both PSE and CEPREMAP.
  • Actively participate in the activities of the Paris Macro group, including attending and contributing to the PSE Seminar.

Position:

  • This is a permanent (open-ended) position. Compensation will be negotiated based on seniority and prior experience.
  • The expected start date is September 1, 2026.
