The postdoctoral research fellow will join the Industrial Organization group at the Department of Economics of KU Leuven (see https://sites.google.com/view/ioleuven/home). The position offers early-career researchers the opportunity to pursue an independent research agenda while gaining valuable teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • conduct independent, high-impact research contributing to an ambitious ERC-funded research agenda (https://research.kuleuven.be/EU/p/he/p1/erc/apcap gives a broad description of the project), for example on the welfare impacts of different large-scale (combinatorial) auctions (applying computer science techniques), transportation economics, demand estimation, network formation games, and/or airline markets
  • publish research findings in leading economics journals
  • engage actively in the intellectual life of the department, participate in the IO seminars, and present your work at international conferences
  • provide occasional teaching support, consisting of one course per semester, or less

Profile

  • hold a Ph.D. in economics or a closely related field
  • demonstrate, regardless of the chosen topics, significant potential to publish in leading economics journals and be able to work independently on research related to the project
  • have an affinity with numerical methods and/or (auction) theory if interested in the auction-related research line, and indicate this in your cover letter (interest in transportation economics, demand estimation and network formation games, and airline markets should likewise be motivated in the cover letter)
  • have an excellent command of written and spoken English; knowledge of Dutch is not required. The department and IO group have a dynamic, international faculty and PhD student body

Offer

We offer a full-time appointment as a postdoctoral bursary fellow for an initial period of one year, with the expectation of renewal for another 1-2 years depending on performance and the interest of the candidate. The net remuneration is comparable to Assistant Professor levels at the institution, but with fewer teaching responsibilities. Funding is provided for research visits, conference travel, and related activities.

Intended start date: Flexible; defaults to 1 September 2027
