Position Introduction

We are seeking multiple highly motivated postdoctoral researchers to join an interdisciplinary research team engaged in a close collaboration with a leading global ride-hailing platform. This ambitious project aims to advance our understanding of digital marketplace design by studying the interactions between customers and drivers, as well as the platform’s operational and strategic choices.

A defining strength of this collaboration is access to exceptionally rich, high-resolution proprietary data from the platform. This unique dataset supports rigorous empirical analysis and enables high-fidelity modeling and simulation of marketplace dynamics at scale. Research topics span a broad set of questions, including how pricing strategies, incentive structures, dispatch algorithms, and service quality shape the behavior and outcomes of customers, drivers, and the platform itself.

We welcome applicants with strong backgrounds in causal inference, structural estimation, advanced machine learning, and simulation. We are especially interested in scholars eager to apply cutting-edge methods to real- world data to uncover insights that are both academically rigorous and practically actionable. The overarching goal is to inform the design of smarter, more equitable, and more efficient platform ecosystems.

The position will be formally affiliated with the School of Management and Economics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen). The postdocs will be supervised by Prof. Yiming Zhang of CUHK-Shenzhen. The research team includes the following faculty from other institutions: Prof. Qiuping Yu (Georgetown), Prof. Yong-Pin Zhou(University of Washington), and Prof. Yunan Ji (Georgetown).

Since 2018, our research team has maintained a close collaboration with this ride-hailing platform. Our prior work has focused on the design and optimization of virtual queuing systems, combining large-scale randomized field experiments with structural modeling to generate actionable insights. Research from this partnership has been published in Management Science and received multiple awards, including the MSOM Service Management SIG Best Paper Award, INFORMS Service Science Best Paper Award, and the CSAMSE Best Practice Award. Notably, our recommended strategies were adopted platform-wide and led to an 80% improvement in customer experience.

Research Team

  • Prof. Yiming Zhang is an Assistant Professor of Operations Management at the School of Management and Economics, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. His research focuses on platform operations. He has extensive collaboration experience with platform firms, including the ride-sharing, food delivery, and logistics platforms. His work has been published in Management Science and has received several best paper awards.
  • Prof. Qiuping Yu is an Associate Professor of Operations Management and Business Analytics at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. Her research explores how digital and service platforms can improve operational efficiency and equity by harnessing real-world behavioral data from both consumers and workers. She employs a range of methods—including large-scale field experiments, structural modeling, and machine learning—to generate actionable insights on platform design, labor scheduling, and fairness across sectors such as ridesharing, retail, restaurants, customer service, and law enforcement. Her work has been published in leading academic and practitioner outlets, including Management Science, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Harvard Business Review, and Brookings Research Briefs in Economic Policy, and has been featured in major media such as The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg Businessweek.

Note from EconJobMarket: On 2025.12.1 we extended the deadline for applications for this posting from 2025.12.1 o 2026.1.31 at the recruiter's request.

Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant Postdoc in Behavioral and Applied Microeconomics at the Department of Economics.

The Department of Economics provides research, teaching, and knowledge transfer within the core areas of economics, i.e. microeconomics, macroeconomics, and quantitative methods. The department is especially active in business-related economic research, and hosts two research centres: Pension Research Centre (PeRCent), and Copenhagen School of Energy Infrastructure (CSEI).

The department is responsible for teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and PhD levels in economics at various study programs at CBS, including the graduate program of Applied Economics and Finance and the MSc in Advanced Economics and Finance. High priority is given to research support, travel support, and access to data.

The Postdoc will work with Associate Professor Luigi Butera (Copenhagen Business School) and Professor Dmitry Taubinsky (UC Berkeley) and their research team, which is a young, energetic group of faculty, graduate students, and full-time research assistants who come from UC Berkeley, CBS, and other institutions. The position is based at Copenhagen Business School, with options to visit UC Berkeley. At the end of the Postdoc, Butera and Taubinsky expect the Postdoc to have completed co-authored manuscripts with them and their team, and they will provide strong support on the academic job market. Butera and Taubinsky will work with the Postdoc to offer a clear publication pipeline and career-development support.

The Postdoc is expected to collaborate on the following research agendas. For each of the three research agendas, the research team will construct novel datasets that merge large-scale survey/choice experiments with rich Danish administrative data.

  • The first agenda will bring to scale our understanding of the determinants of people’s subjective well-being, people’s preferences over aspects of wellbeing, and people’s forecasts of their own and others’ wellbeing.
  • The second agenda investigates at scale how people’s (mis)perceptions about their own past and future financial situation, as well as a host of other potential behavioral biases, shape their key economic choices.
  • The third agenda seeks to understand how emotionally-charged but transitory life events with no long-term consequences impact people’s financial and health decisions—and the role of memory as a mechanism.

The Postdoc is a non-tenured position for a three-year period with research obligation and without teaching obligation.

To fulfill the research requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department.

Qualifications
The applicant must hold a PhD in Economics (or adjacent disciplines) by July 2026 or the equivalent. In assessing applications, particular emphasis will be placed on the following:

  • Proven experience in applied micro-econometric methods and survey/experimental design.
  • Experience with administrative data (especially from Denmark) and knowledge of Danish are a plus.
  • You are a team player who likes to take initiative and go after ambitious and novel research questions.

Emphasis is placed on research relevant to the job description.

The applicant must have professional proficiency in English (written and spoken).

Copenhagen Business School has a broad commitment to the excellence, distinctiveness and relevance of its teaching and research programmes. Candidates who wish to join us should demonstrate enthusiasm for working in an organisation of this type (highlighting, for example, relevant business, educational and dissemination activities).

For further information please contact: Associate Professor Luigi Butera, tel.: +45 3815 25 92, e-mail lbu.eco@cbs.dk. Information about the department may be found at www.cbs.dk/econ.

Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Central Academic Organisation.

Application

Application must include:

  1. A summary of the candidate’s main strengths and abilities.
  2. A complete, numbered list of publications (indicating titles, co-authors, page numbers and year) with an * marking of the academic productions to be considered during the review. A maximum of 5 publications for review are allowed. Applicants are requested to prioritise their publications in relation to the field of this job advertisement.
  3. Copies of the publications marked with an *. Only publications written in English (or another specified principal language, according to research tradition) or one of the Scandinavian languages will be taken into consideration).

  5. Documentation of relevant, significant, original research at an international level.
  6. Transcript(s) and a full CV.
  7. Contact details of three references.

Recruitment procedure

Lab Manager and Lecturer position

The Faculty of Economics and Business (EB) at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) offers world-class education in economics, fiscal economics, econometrics, actuarial science, and business administration to over 5,000 students. Home to top-tier research groups and 400 staff members, EB is internationally renowned and consists of the Amsterdam Business School and the Amsterdam School of Economics (ASE).

The Amsterdam School of Economics is among the top economics research institutes in Europe. The School has a strong focus on producing outstanding research and world-class teaching and is highly active in international academic networks. The ASE is known for its ambitious and supportive culture with ample opportunity for personal development in an attractive international work environment.

Microeconomics is one of ASE’s four sections, covering research in experimental & political economics, applied microeconometrics, and markets & organizations, while also leading microeconomics courses in FEB’s bachelor’s and master’s programs. The Microeconomics section hosts the Center for Research in Experimental Economics (CREED), one of Europe’s largest groups in experimental economics, with three dedicated laboratories.

We are now recruiting for a combined Laboratory Manager (50%) and Lecturer (50%) position. This appointment includes only limited research time.

As a lab manager, you will be responsible for maintenance of the infrastructure. This involves routine hardware and software upkeep; managing experimental platforms (e.g., oTree) and servers; coordinating with central IT; scheduling lab use; recruiting and maintaining the participant pool; cash management; purchasing and inventory control; ensuring data security, backups, and GDPR/IRB compliance; preparing rooms and equipment and providing on-site technical support during sessions when needed; documenting procedures; and supporting researchers with programming advice and programming.

As a lecturer, you will be responsible for teaching microeconomics courses. The academic year is structured into four six-week blocks and two three-week blocks, during which you’ll spend an average of 7-8 hours per week in the classroom. Initially, you’ll focus on bachelor-level courses, primarily leading tutorials for subjects coordinated and taught by other faculty members. Additionally, you’ll supervise bachelor and master theses. Over time, based on performance, you may take on full course responsibility, including at the master’s level.

The Microeconomics section is a diverse team of 50+ members, ranging from PhD candidates to full professors, each contributing their expertise and perspectives. Currently, six lecturers specialize in teaching, contributing to an environment that values and respects every member’s role in both education and research.

We foster a collaborative atmosphere, with regular team meetings and open communication with colleagues and leadership. Beyond work, informal gatherings provide opportunities to connect in a more relaxed setting.

We are seeking a motivated and passionate lab-manager/lecturer who wants to specialize in academic teaching. The ideal candidate:

· Has experience with experiments in economics and experimental software.

· Has experience with and an interest in microeconomics.

· Is a team player, treating colleagues with respect and professionalism.

· Holds (or is close to completing) a PhD in Economics.

· Has university-level teaching experience; applicants with strong course evaluations are encouraged to apply.

· Is fluent in English and either fluent in Dutch or willing to learn Dutch for teaching purposes.

We offer full-time employment for the period of one year with a probationary period of two months, preferably starting from January 1, 2026, with the prospect of a permanent employment agreement.

The UFO profiles Process Manager (for lab manager) and Docent 3 apply to this position. This position is classified in scale 11. This means a gross monthly salary between € 4,728 and € 6,433 for full-time employment (38 hours per week), excluding holiday allowance (8%) and year-end bonus (8.3%). The salary scale depends on competences and work experience.

The Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities is applicable.

The UvA has an extensive package of fringe benefits, including:

· 29 days' holiday with full employment & extra holidays between Christmas and the New Year;

· Reimbursement of commuting expenses;

· Pension accrual with ABP;

The Kiel Institute is proud to launch a new postdoctoral fellow program in honor of Albert O. Hirschman – who was born in Berlin, fled Nazi Germany, and became an eminent scholar in international economics, development economics, geoeconomics and international political economy. Hirschman valued creativity over conformity and left a lasting mark on economics and the social sciences. In his spirit, the program seeks to bring together exceptional young economists who are eager to pursue bold, relevant questions in international economics and help shape the future of the field.

The PostDoc program

The Albert O. Hirschman PostDoc program in Berlin / Kiel is highly selective and will admit up to five postdoctoral participants per year, aiming to build a small, cohesive cohort. The first cohort will start on 1 September 2026. Participants can choose to work in our offices in Berlin or Kiel, embedded in the Kiel Institute’s research environment and broader policy network. We expect participants to pursue independent research at the highest international standards, to engage with our seminar culture, and to contribute—by choice and fit—to supervision and collaborative projects.

The program focuses on international economics broadly defined, including fields such as international trade, international finance, macroeconomics, development, climate economics, as well as geoeconomics and security.

Contracts will be offered for one or two years, depending on the job market outcome. A one-year appointment is intended for candidates who plan to accept a subsequent position (for example, an Assistant Professorship). A two-year appointment is intended for candidates without a confirmed follow-up position.

Career development is a central feature of the program. Each participant will have one or more professors of the Kiel Institute as mentors and a small “peer board” of senior scholars (including external professors) for strategy and placement advice. We will organize structured job-market preparation for candidates joining for two years, including paper polishing, application materials, mock interviews and talks, and targeted placement mentoring. Participants may also receive tailored grant-writing training.

What we offer

Participants will control their own budget to hire research assistants, for conference travel, research stays abroad, or to run a seminar series or mini workshop with external speakers. Teaching and administrative duties will be kept to a minimum, but we offer teaching practice opportunities at partner universities, as well as participation in selected ASP training courses to learn state-of-the-art methods. Furthermore, the group will receive financing and support to present and network at major Kiel–CEPR conferences—such as those on China, Africa, Geoeconomics, and the Kiel Trade Summit— which offer direct exposure to top scholars and policymakers.

Postdocs will earn a gross annual salary approximately in the €56k–€79k range, depending on experience and qualification, with a German TV-L E13 (100%) contract with full social security coverage, including health insurance. Participants benefit from travel and research support and from a family-friendly environment including paid parental leave in line with German law (with contracts extended for the duration of parental leave). Office space, IT support, and access to Institute data resources are provided at the host location.

Your profile

To be eligible, applicants must hold a PhD in economics or a closely related field that was awarded within the three years preceding the program start, or must have formally submitted the dissertation by 1 September 2026 (with defense shortly thereafter). Strong written and spoken English is required; German is not required. We particularly welcome applications from researchers working on geoeconomics and security and aim to admit at least 50% women to the program. Eligibility is open to all nationalities.

How to apply

Please submit all application materials on the EconJobMarket.org website.

Applications for the 2026 intake are due November 30, 2025, with decisions by January 2026. The application file should include a CV, a cover letter, a research statement, a job market paper (or comparable writing sample), and two or three confidential letters of reference submitted directly. In the cover letter, applicants should indicate the preferred host location (Kiel or Berlin), and name one or two potential mentors. For selection, we place special attention to research excellence and potential for field-leading contributions.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a dynamic academic division at a pivotal moment in the university’s evolution. The Dean will lead a vibrant community of scholars who advance foundational and applied research on some of the most pressing issues of our time - ranging from inequality, governance, and social change - within a highly international and interdisciplinary environment.

The Division

The Social Science Division is home to over 80 full-time faculty, including a Nobel Laureate in Economics and a vibrant community of post-doctoral researchers in Economics, Political Science, Social Research & Public Policy, Business Organizations & Society, and Legal Studies. The Division’s research strength is internationally recognized - Economics at NYUAD ranks 4th in Asia in Research Papers in Economics, and Political Science ranks 6th globally according to a recent study. Its faculty regularly publish in leading disciplinary and interdisciplinary journals.

The Dean will have a unique opportunity to capitalize on this momentum: building on the Division’s existing strengths in graduate education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the global and local visibility of its research and teaching.

About NYU Abu Dhabi

Founded in partnership with New York University and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, NYUAD is an extraordinary achievement in global higher education. The Role

The Dean reports to the Provost and serves as a key member of NYUAD’s senior leadership team. As the Division’s chief academic officer, the Dean will provide strategic leadership for its faculty, curricula, and research agenda, championing excellence and innovation in both research and pedagogy. The role also carries significant responsibility for fostering an accessible and collaborative academic community and for representing the Division’s strengths to partners within and beyond NYU.

As part of the senior administration, the Dean must work effectively and collegially with other deans as well as academic and administrative leaders. In addition to engaging with members of the Division of Social Science, they must also be able to work with faculty across the institution. The Dean must be committed to two-way communication, to fostering trust, and to building community at the campus, national, and international levels.

Specifically, the Dean will be a catalyst in addressing the following key challenges and opportunities for the Division:

  • Recruiting and retaining an excellent, collaborative, and engaged faculty
  • Enhancing interdisciplinary research, scholarship, and creative activity

  • Engaging the Abu Dhabi and UAE community

The Institute for Economic Analysis (IAE) is a research center within the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the largest public research institution in Spain. Founded in 1985 and situated in the Barcelona metropolitan area, the IAE is renowned for advancing frontier research in economics. Its team of researchers is dedicated to scientific excellence, employing both theoretical and empirical approaches across a wide spectrum of economic areas. Consistently recognized in international rankings, the IAE stands out as one of Europe’s premier institutions for economic research.

The IAE is also a founding member of the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE), a world-class institution that fosters collaboration among four academic and research units in Barcelona. The BSE has consistently been awarded Severo Ochoa grants since the program was launched by Spain’s State Research Agency. This prestigious recognition is awarded to top research institutions in Spain that demonstrate scientific impact and leadership at the international level. The IAE is engaged in graduate education by directing and contributing to BSE Master’s programs. We are equally dedicated to the IDEA doctoral program at UAB, where we mentor the next generation of scholars, equipping them with the guidance, resources, and support necessary to excel in their academic pursuits.

As a public institution, CSIC periodically opens "Permanent Job Calls," which are the way to achieve a permanent public position at CSIC as a civil servant. You may consult these at CSIC's Virtual Platform. There are 3 levels of permanent positions at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC): Tenured Scientist (Associate Professor level 1), Research Scientist (Associate Professor level 2) and Research Professor.

CSIC typically opens an annual call for permanent positions, but this does not guarantee that the IAE will have an open position / open positions each year. In general, the IAE Board must request positions from CSIC, submitting a list of highly qualified candidates who have expressed a strong interest in joining the institute. Therefore, if you are interested, please contact job.openings@iae.csic.es. For details and the latest updates on current and forthcoming job openings, please visit our website here or here.

As a general rule, candidates should have a European Union citizenship, although there are a few exceptions to this. To apply for a tenured civil servant position, candidates who have completed their Ph.D. thesis abroad must have their doctoral degree homologated or at least received the equivalence in Spain. Equivalence is a simplified procedure that certifies, for academic purposes, that the training completed to obtain a foreign master’s or doctoral degree is comparable to that required in Spain, both in terms of level and in relation to a specific academic area and field. For reference, the process of obtaining the equivalence of a foreign Ph.D. degree can take up several months. Hence, the process should be started before there is a call announcing new positions.

If you need the recognition of equivalence of your doctoral degree, the body responsible for issuing it will be any Spanish public or private university, provided that the university offers a doctoral program comparable to the one for which recognition is sought. Some of the documents to be submitted will require an official translation into Spanish and might require legalization. Within the European Union, the translation of public documents of a Member State is not required when they are accompanied by a standard multilingual form. The legalization must be carried out by the Spanish consular office in the country where the document was issued, except in the case of countries that are signatories of the Hague Convention, where legalization is replaced by the apostille, issued by the competent authorities of the country of origin. Neither legalization nor apostille is required for academic documents issued by EU Member States, signatories to the EEA Agreement or Switzerland.

To apply, visit https://www.iae.csic.es/job-openings/permanent-job-opportunities. (See posting for details.)

We offer full-time employment for the period of four years with a probationary period of two months, preferably starting from Jan 1, 2026, with the prospect of a permanent employment agreement.

The UFO profile Docent 4 applies to this position. This position is classified in scale 10. This means a gross monthly salary between € 3,546 and € 5,538 for full-time employment (38 hours per week), excluding holiday allowance (8%) and year-end bonus (8.3%). The salary scale depends on competences and work experience.

The Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities is applicable.

The UvA has an extensive package of fringe benefits, including:

· 29 days' holiday with full employment & extra holidays between Christmas and the New Year;

· Reimbursement of commuting expenses;

· Pension accrual with ABP;

· In addition, the UvA offers excellent study and development opportunities and encourages employees to continue their professional development;
