The Department of Economics and Business Economics at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for a number of associate professor positions in all fields of Economics and Business Economics. The associate professorships are full-time, permanent positions with expected starting date 1 August 2024 or as soon as possible subject to mutual agreement.

Job description

The successful applicant is expected to contribute significantly to the department’s research and teaching environment and to the overall research strategy of the department.
Candidates are expected to teach and supervise students at Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD level and to carry out research of the highest international standards, which contributes to developing the relevant academic field. The department covers the majority of fields in Economics and Business Economics (where the latter includes Management Science, Financial Accounting and Auditing, Finance, Industrial Organization, Logistics, Operations Research, Business Intelligence, and Business Analytics). Also, the successful candidate is expected to be active in applying for external research funding, and to contribute to knowledge exchange and dissemination of research results. The department is international and has more than 30 nationalities. Non-Danish applicants are expected to learn Danish within the first few years of employment.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess research qualifications and teaching skills and experience corresponding to those obtained after successful completion of a period of employment as an assistant professor, but equivalent academic qualifications may also be accepted. To qualify for the associate professorship, the candidate must do original new research since acquiring the PhD degree, and show research momentum and document publications in highly ranked scientific journals. Potential for attracting external research funding counts positively. Equally important, documentation is required for good teaching qualifications at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in the fields of Economics and/or Business Economics.

Permanent employment as associate professor at Aarhus BSS requires completion of the supervision course and also the course Online and blended learning provided by Centre for Educational Development at Aarhus University. If you have not completed the courses before commencement of employment, continued employment will be conditional on completion of the courses within a two year period.

The required qualifications with the fields of economics and business economics are elaborated below:

1. Research Qualifications

Applicants are expected to have a well-documented international research profile with emphasis on publications in leading peer-reviewed journals of the relevant field. The applicant must have produced a significant body of publications in terms of quantity and quality referring to leading journal lists covering the relevant field. As a guideline, the successful candidate has at least one publication per research year after the PhD (with top general interest and top field journals carrying greater weight) and in total at least 3-6 publications. Candidates should show research momentum with research works that go beyond the PhD thesis; working papers, and papers submitted to journals and papers documented to be in a revise-resubmit stage are considered as well. Qualifications are considered in relation to the number of years at the present academic level. Documentation via co-author declarations should be presented that shows the capacity to carry out independent research.

2. Didactical/pedagogical competencies and experiences

Documented teaching and supervisor qualifications (preferably at different levels) are necessary and should be documented via positive teaching qualifications. Normally a minimum requirement of 3-4 courses should have been taught.

All applicants should submit a teaching portfolio, where didactical/pedagogical competencies and experiences are carefully documented.

3. External funding

Applicants are encouraged to provide information about their ability to attract external research funding.
