We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. The person to be appointed will be part of the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Tax Systems Research (FIT). FIT studies the effects and design of multiple aspects of public policy. Our research program is very broad, covering a multitude of topics related to public finance, labor, health, and environmental economics, and industrial organization. Our research utilizes empirical, experimental, and theoretical methods, together with world-class register data on individuals and firms.

Job description

We seek a highly accomplished early-career academic to conduct and organize high-quality scientific research. We encourage applications from highly promising candidates with an ambition to carry out innovative, top-quality research related to the topics covered by the FIT research program. We expect the post-doctoral researcher to produce research papers for international top journals. We also expect the candidates to give research-based teaching (no more than 5% of annual work time) and to actively contribute to international research collaboration.

We require

  • Recently completed or close to completion of applicable PhD in Economics.
  • Potential to produce research at a high international level of excellence and ability to undertake independent scholarly activity.

We are looking for candidates who have recently completed or are close to completion of their PhD in Economics. Applicants will be reviewed based on their potential for excellence in research, teaching, and activity in the international scientific community. We emphasize innovativeness and ambition demonstrated by current and planned research, as well as international experience and research collaboration. The applicant’s research interests should be linked to the broad research areas of FIT and may include applied research topics, methodological and/or theoretical themes that complement or bring in new perspectives to FIT. The precise field of specialization is open. The position requires fluency in English.

We offer

The postdoctoral research fellow will be hired for a fixed term of three years. The start date will be September 1, 2024, unless another date is mutually agreed. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.

The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. Typically, the starting salary of Postdoctoral Researcher is around 3650-4200 EUR/month. Higher salaries may be agreed dependent upon experience and/or performance.
