The Department of Economics, part of Birmingham Business School at the University of Birmingham, is seeking to appoint up to two Associate Professors in any area of economics. Candidates with a background in Macroeconomics, Econometrics, or Financial Economics are particularly encouraged to apply.
Successful applicants will undertake research of international excellence and contribute to knowledge exchange activities relative to their discipline. They will also contribute to learning and teaching on new and established programs and undertake leadership and service activities in line with the Department, School, and College’s strategic objectives.
The Department of Economics has a long and strong research tradition. It is also one of the biggest economics departments in the UK having more than 60 members of staff covering the fields of Econometrics, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Trade, Energy, Environmental Economics, and Behavioural/Experimental economics.
The Department will be represented at the European Job Market to be held between December 11-14 2023 and the ASSA Job Market between January 3-5 2024. Role Summary
You will contribute at a senior level to teaching, research, and administration. In addition, you will be expected to contribute to academic citizenship, likely to be demonstrated through generous, mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all staff and students.
Teaching is likely to include: (a) development and leadership of major teaching programmes or equivalent; and (b) enhancement of the student experience or employability.
Research is likely to involve an established national and international reputation through significant original research work and a clear record of impact.
Management and administration is likely to include Departmental/School leadership and management activity with University wide involvement – for example through sustained high value research, knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, and public engagement or similar activities.
