The National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) is India's oldest and largest national, non-profit, independent economic research institute. NCAER has over its 65+ years of existence contributed to high-quality economic research that has a policy impact. It is among the few think tanks globally that have strong field data collection capabilities for national surveys. Its research covers almost the entire horizon of policy-focused applied research in economics, from macroeconomics to poverty and consumer behaviour. NCAER offers a wonderful place to grow and groom yourself into a policy economist. A vibrant, dynamic academic environment with both world-class faculty and physical infrastructure. If you run into a writer’s block, there are lovely views of Delhi. If you want to unwind, play a game of table tennis or badminton. Or just a lovely walk around the campus with a colleague to spur your creativity.

We seek researchers excited by in-depth data analysis, self-motivation, flexibility, and drive for evidence-based policymaking. NCAER provides unparalleled opportunities to work on complex economic policy issues, use NCAER’s datasets and collect new data, engage with policymakers at the highest levels, and publish professionally. Applicants must have strong analytical, quantitative, writing and speaking skills, and must be self-starters.

Senior Fellows provide intellectual and technical leadership; develop, oversee, and execute a portfolio of projects and research grants; manage and supervise teams of younger faculty members and external consultants engaged on project basis. The candidates must possess PhD in economics and/or advanced professional degrees in management and possess a strong record of research/policy analysis/teaching/grant writing/government service/consulting, and publications across multiple previous positions, including from senior ranks of government. Minimum experience 10 to 15 years.

Fellows are mid-career professionals with a strong, post-PhD record of research/policy analysis/teaching/grant writing/government service/consulting, and publications across multiple previous positions, including from middle level ranks of government over at least one previous position. Minimum experience of 3 to 5 years.

Associate Fellows can have nearly completed PhDs with cutting-edge analytical expertise in applied econometrics, CGE modelling, policy analysis, and familiarity of economic databases and econometric software; a high level of flexibility, excellent writing skills to prepare research reports/papers/newspaper articles, self-motivation. Exceptional candidates with MPAs/MBAs/MAs/M Phil degrees will also be considered.

Appointments are renewable, 5-year contracts on competitive salaries.
