LSE-Newcleo Fellow in Energy Economics and Policy

Salary from £40,229 to £48,456pa inclusive with potential to progress to £52,095 pa inclusive.

This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for two years with the potential to extend for a further year subject to funding. Start date September 2024.

This Fellowship opportunity is the result of an exciting and ambitious strategic partnership between LSE and Newcleo Ltd. (www.newcleo.com) to foster outstanding research in energy economics and policy at LSE. You will join one of the world’s largest and best-known environmental and resource economics groups, which bridges, for example, the Department of Geography and Environment, and the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment.

The successful candidate will be based within the Department of Geography and Environment, as part of a growing team of researchers working on the economics of energy and environment. The successful candidate will develop their own research agenda within this team. They will also have the opportunity to develop and contribute to teaching initiatives on energy economics and policy within the Department. The successful candidate will participate in wider departmental and School activities as required, whilst contributing to fostering an engaging and supportive research environment within LSE, as well as between LSE and Newcleo Ltd.

Key Requirements:

• Completed or near completion of a PhD in economics, environmental/resource economics, or related fields by the fellowship start date.

• Profound knowledge of energy economics, environmental economics, and energy policy (including nuclear energy).

• Ability to engage with decision-makers beyond academia and effectively communicate complex concepts to energy policymakers and professionals.

An LSE Fellowship is intended to be an entry route to an academic career and is deemed by the School to be a career development position. As such, applicants who have already been employed as a LSE Fellow for three years in total are not eligible to apply. If you have any queries about this, please contact the HR Division.

As a Fellow, you'll become an integral part of the Department of Geography and Environment, working alongside a vibrant team dedicated to advancing the economics of energy and environment. You'll shape your own research agenda while contributing to innovative teaching initiatives focusing on energy economics and policy.
