As the Senior Economist Manager for Caterpillar’s Resource Industries (RI) segment, you will have responsibility for managing a group of individuals that provide economic, commercial and competitive insights to our senior leadership team. This role is responsible for translating the data behind economic & commodity megatrends to our leaders in a way that shapes operational and strategic planning. As a key member of the RI team, you’ll be supporting the largest machines at Caterpillar. And doing so at a time when they’re on the front lines of critical topics – like electrification, autonomy and emissions control – that will help define the world of tomorrow.
What You Will Do:
- Monitor and forecast commodity market trends and align with business unit leadership on impacts to product groups
- Present analysis and forecasts to management, business unit leaders and industry stakeholders
- Drive insights to business partners through summarization and visualization of economic data
- Coordinate business intelligence reports for senior leaders, focusing on market trends and customer/competitor activity
- Maintain enterprise data repositories and lead data curation and digital transformation efforts
- Lead and develop staff of economists and analysts
What You Have:
- Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in economics (or related field) and 8+ years of job-related experience
- Economic Analysis: ability to investigate global economic activities, analyze economic performance and prepare reports to support organizational decision making
- Forecasting: extensive knowledge of forecasting tools and analytical techniques; ability to analyze and scenario-plan for how economic data influences product demand
- Business Markets: experience evaluating markets, including from the perspectives of customers, competitors, suppliers and legislators; ability to apply market knowledge to development of analytics
- Effective Communications: strong ability to transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas and information; create and lead staff in creation of content
- Managing Multiple Priorities: ability to manage concurrent activities and projects; effectively prioritize (and re-prioritize); effectively allocate team bandwidth
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
- Prior experience with commodity markets and mining, heavy construction or related industries
- High levels of initiative, creativity, and interpersonal/communication skills to collaborate with a variety of audiences and management levels
- Ability to speak technically when required but also clearly and concisely with non-financial audiences
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity operating the Bloomberg Terminal
