The Walter Eucken Institut is a center of excellence for research on constitutional economics and ordoliberal thinking. As an independent institution, the institute conducts economics and social science research in the tradition of the Freiburg School of Ordoliberal Economics. Thereby our main question is how our market-based competitive order can be maintained and further developed.

We aim to bring new economic ideas and ordoliberal thinking into debates – in academic as well as in public debates. With activities such as lectures, conferences or our social media appearances, we would like to advance a broad understanding of economic relationships and the social market economy.

Our research focuses on fiscal and economic policy, behavioral economics and the history of economic thought.
