The Tax & Transfer Policy Institute (TTPI) at the Australian National University is seeking a public or labor economist to collaborate with senior researchers on a project designed to improve the quality of government decision-making. The researcher will engage with a variety of topics in applied microeconomics, ranging from labor market and education interventions to tax and transfer policies. This empirical work will be combined with welfare analysis building on recent insights from public economics. The role will require careful and detailed re-analysis of previously evaluated policies, and new empirical work using recently introduced large-scale linked administrative datasets. Data analysis skills are required, including Stata or R, and GitHub. An appreciation of the fundamentals of public finance is also required. In addition to academic publications, we expect our results to be of direct relevance to current debates and choices about policy in Australia and elsewhere. The position is fixed term for three to five years.
