The UdeM Department of Economics is one of the top francophone departments in the world, and the leading francophone department in Canada. Our faculty members have earned solid international reputations, especially in econometrics, economic theory, macroeconomics, social choice and public economics. Our doctoral students obtain placements at prestigious universities and at major institutions, such as the International Monetary Fund and the Bank of Canada. The successful candidate will, through his or her research and teaching, contribute significantly to the mission of excellence of the University in the field of macroeconomics.

The successful candidate's file could be proposed for an IVADO professorship if their research program is in line with the IVADO objectives. These positions offer improved starting conditions. The incumbents will participate in the ambitious project (IAR3) aimed at the development and adoption of robust, reasoned and responsible artificial intelligence for which IVADO obtained a Canada First Research Excellence grant.

Your day-to-day impact

Through your teaching and your research activities, you will play a pivotal role in fostering excellence within your faculty. Furthermore, you will enhance the prominence of your area of expertise and actively participate in the daily activities of our renowned university. In this role, your responsibilities will include:

• To teach in the three cycles (bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees), and to advise graduate students;

• To develop an innovative and internationally competitive research agenda, and to publish in the best journals in economics;

• To contribute to the University’s international standing and to the diffusion of knowledge via conferences, publications, and by presenting your research at the best international conferences;

• To acquire financing from the major funding organizations;

• To contribute to the good functioning and development of the department, of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and the University.

What you'll need to succeed

• Ph. D in Economics.

• Research expertise and demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality research.

• Excellent publication record, or demonstrate excellent publication potential, in macroeconomics.

• Ability to provide high-quality university teaching and advice to graduate students.

• Potential to develop internal, national, and international collaborations.

• Adequate proficiency in the French language or a strong commitment to mastering the proficiency level required upon assuming the position in accordance to Université de Montréal’s Language Policy. A French language learning assistance program is offered to all professors who wish to acquire French language skills or enhance their communication abilities.
