The Department of Economics at the University of Southern Denmark invites expressions of interest for Tenure-Track Assistant Professorships in Macroeconomics, with a particular emphasis on international finance, monetary and financial history, and growth and fluctuations in historical perspective. We especially encourage expressions of interest from empirical macroeconomists who integrate long-term perspectives into their research.
Deadline for expressions of interest: 1 December 2024. The starting date is flexible, but we hope to welcome our new colleague(s) on 15 August 2025.
About the Department
The Department of Economics is an international department with a strong tradition for excellence in research and teaching within the various areas of economics. The research, teaching, and dissemination activities are organized within four platforms: Econometrics and Data Science, Economic History, Macroeconomics, and Microeconomics. The Assistant Professor(s) will be affiliated with one of these platforms. A more detailed description of the department and its platforms can be found on the department website.
It is the aim of the department to conduct and disseminate top-tier research, evidenced by publications in distinguished journals, international conference presentations, external funding, and impactful dissemination. Furthermore, the department emphasizes high-quality research-based teaching using the most relevant teaching methods to enhance students’ learning.
The department oversees undergraduate and graduate programmes in Economics and Mathematics-Economics at the Odense campus. It is also responsible for economics courses at different campuses at the University of Southern Denmark with activities in Odense and Sønderborg. The research activities (and the workplace) are situated in Odense.
Qualifications
We welcome expressions of interest from qualified candidates regardless of age, gender, race, religion, or ethnic background. Candidates must hold a PhD or equivalent at the time of appointment. We particularly welcome those interested in empirical macroeconomics, with a focus on areas such as international finance, monetary and financial history, and growth and fluctuations in historical perspective.
Responsibilities
- Conduct top-tier research resulting in publications in prestigious international academic journals.
- Engage in research-based teaching and supervision (including examination duties).
- Participate in course development and pedagogical initiatives.
- Engage in fundraising and grant writing activities.
- Disseminate research to relevant audiences.
- Maintain and develop relationships with appropriate stakeholders.
- Perform academic, knowledge dissemination/outreach, and administrative tasks.
The teaching and research languages at the department are English and Danish. SDU offers Danish language courses to new employees.
