(Tutorial Fellowships at Balliol College)

The Department of Economics and Balliol College are recruiting an Associate Professor of Economics, to commence employment in September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
This is a joint appointment: the successful candidate will be a member of the Department of Economics as well as a Tutorial Fellow in Economics at Balliol College. The role will involve undertaking independent research, undergraduate and graduate teaching and supervision. It will also encompass administrative and pastoral duties for the department and college.

Appointments to Associate Professor can include those at the start of their careers directly from PhD, as well as more established researchers.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate a high standard of research potential and achievement depending on experience, and the ability to enthuse and inspire students at both undergraduate and graduate levels through tutorials, classes, lectures, and supervision. Applicants should be interested in promoting a culture of equality and diversity in the workplace.
The appointment is for 5 years in the first instance, with reappointment until retirement upon completion of a successful review. The University of Oxford uses the grade of Associate Professor for most of its academic appointments.

Initial online interviews with the hiring committee will take place during the European Job Market, 15-19 December 2025.
Based on the online interviews, candidates will be invited to Oxford and will be asked to:
• Deliver a one-hour research presentation.
• Attend interview with members of the Economics department and of the College.
• Present an account of their research in a form digestible by undergraduates to an audience including students from Balliol, and to answer questions from the students.
