Salary: Research Grade 7, £39,424–£47,779 per annum

The Department of Economics is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow.
The successful candidate will join the ERC-funded research project GENTALENT: Gender Specialisation in the Future of Work, led by Professor Barbara Petrongolo at the University of Oxford.
The project investigates how workplace organisation, family dynamics, and social norms shape gender specialization, and how these patterns affect careers, parental mental health, and child development. The research will also explore the dynamics of gender specialization in a historical perspective. The postholder will play a central role in developing and implementing the project's research agenda, working closely with the Principal Investigator and other collaborators. The successful candidate will have opportunities to develop independent research ideas, co-author papers intended for leading international journals and contribute to the supervision of junior researchers.
Professor Barbara Petrongolo is a member of the Applied Microeconomics Group within the Department of Economics (https://www.economics.ox.ac.uk/research-group/applied-microeconomics) and the postholder will join that group.
The Department provides a vibrant environment for postdoctoral researchers and excellent training and development opportunities: over 20 researchers currently hold postdoctoral positions within the Department. Many previous fellows have moved on to permanent faculty positions at leading universities in Europe and North America.
The closing date for applications is midnight (UTC) on 27 November 2026. Interviews for shortlisted candidates will be held online shortly after the application closing date.
Applications must be submitted online via EconJobMarket (EJM): EJM - Econ Job Market
