The Foundation Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC) is a non-profit research institution in Italy. CMCC’s mission is to investigate and model our climate system and its interactions with society to provide reliable, rigorous, and timely scientific results, which will in turn stimulate sustainable growth, protect the environment, and develop science driven adaptation and mitigation policies in a changing climate. CMCC research activities are distributed among nine research divisions that share different knowledge and skills in the field of climate science.

This job opportunity is promoted by the ECIP Research Division on Economic analysis of Climate Impacts and Policy and it will be linked to two strategic partnerships CMCC@Ca'Foscari with Ca’Foscari University of Venice  and EIEE - European Institute on Economics and the Environment with Resource for the Future.

ECIP-CMCC is currently encouraging applications for one researcher position in this research fields: Applied General Equilibrium ModellingEnvironmental and Resource Economics.

Duties will be carried out at CMCC office in Venice, Italy.

The selected candidate will interact with researchers of different research background and nationalities. She/he will focus on writing top quality scientific papers, will be engaged in a global network and will have the chance to attend major conferences.

Detailed job description:

  1. Support to the development of a water supply and demand module in the CMCC computable general equilibrium model;
  2. More broadly, support to the ECIP CGE modelling team in conducting its core research activity related to the economic assessment of climate change impacts and policies developed within ongoing EU projects and tenders, contributing to the team scientific publication activity and fund raising action.

The desired qualifications are:

  1. Ph.D. in economics. Applications from PhD candidates who are close to its completion are accepted;
  2. Proven expertise with computable general equilibrium modelling and familiarity with the GEMPACK software. Although these requisites are highly recommended, candidates with proven experience in conducting applied economic research using modelling approaches can be examined;
  3. Excellent knowledge of the English language.

Belonging to legally protected categories (ex L. 68/99) will constitute a preferential condition.

Assignment are expected to being in early 2020. The appointment period will be initially of one year, renewable for up to two more years. The gross salary will be based on qualification and working experience and competitive with major research centres in Europe.
