Bank of Latvia (Latvijas Banka) is seeking a skilled Research Economist with a PhD in Economics or Finance (or studies expected to be completed in 2020) with research interests in macroeconomics and monetary economics. The job is located in Riga, Latvia.

Latvijas Banka is the central bank of Latvia. It represents Latvia in the Eurosystem and, together with other central banks of the Eurosystem, is responsible for the decision-making on monetary policy in the euro area. The successful candidate will join the Research Unit within the Monetary Policy Department of Bank of Latvia. The Unit's goal is to produce high quality research as well as develop modelling tools, thus contributing to the quality of discussions both within the Bank and with the general public (the profile of the Research Unit is reflected in publications https://www.bank.lv/en/publications-r/working-papers/2016-eng). The Research Unit's staff is also expected to actively participate in research projects and working groups within the Eurosystem.

The successful applicant will be expected to work as an integral part of the Research Unit team, with particular focus on operating and developing Latvia’s DSGE model in close collaboration with other researchers and working on ad hoc research projects that are relevant from monetary policy perspective.

Requirements:

  • education: completed PhD studies in Economics or Finance (or expected to be completed in 2020)
  • ability to undertake high quality research projects with the potential to be published in peer-reviewed academic journals in relevant areas (macroeconomics, monetary economics). Interest in applied New Keynesian models will be considered an advantage
  • excellent oral communication and presentation skills in English

  • ability to work in teams

We will conduct interviews at the 2019 EEA Job Market in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on December 18-19, 2019.
