Department of Economics, Manor Road Building, Oxford and Hertford College

Grade 10a: Salary ranges between £48,114-£64,605 p.a.

Plus a College Housing Allowance which is currently £9,799 p.a.

The University is seeking to appoint a full-time Associate Professor of Economics to start in September 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The University of Oxford uses the grade of Associate Professor for most of its senior academic appointments. This grade is roughly equivalent to Associate Professor in the USA. Associate Professors are eligible for consideration through regular recognition of distinction exercises for award of the title of full Professor.

The post is associated with a Tutorial Fellowship, at Hertford College. Duties will include undertaking independent research and securing funding to support the Department’s research activities, together with teaching and supervision responsibilities for the Department of Economics and the College, and Trustee duties (as a member of the Governing Body) at the College.

Applications are invited from candidates with a completed doctorate in Economics and postdoctoral experience in an academic position. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a high standard of research achievement and potential, and the ability to enthuse and inspire students at both undergraduate and graduate level through tutorials, classes, lectures, and supervision. Applicants should have an interest in promoting a culture of equality and diversity in the workplace.

The Department and College wish to encourage applicants with research and teaching interests in any field of economics. The Department would welcome applicants willing to teach Economic History, Financial Economics or Financial Econometrics, but has teaching needs in all fields.

The College requires post holders to be willing to teach Macroeconomics or Quantitative Economics to undergraduates.

The appointment is for 5 years in the first instance, with reappointment to retirement upon completion of a successful review.

The Department and the College offer an exciting research and teaching environment, and an attractive financial package to the successful applicant.

Salary ranges between £48,114-£64,605 p.a. plus additional benefits. In cases of particular merit, the Department may make a recommendation to the University for the award of an additional salary supplement above the maximum scale. Please refer to the Further Particulars for details of the wider benefits package offered by the University and each of the three colleges, including the annual research allowances.

Associate Professors who are awarded the title of full professor may receive from the University an additional salary payment of £2,804 p.a.

Closing date for applications: Please submit your application by 12 midday GMT on 6th March 2020.

Interviews are expected to be held over two days, 19th and 20th March 2020, and shortlisted candidates are expected to be available over both days.

Applicants who applied for the Associate Professorships in Economics for Brasenose, Christ Church, Merton and University in the autumn of 2019 will also be considered for this position without needing to re-apply.
