Temporary Full-Time (one year) Economics Instructor in the Faculty of Management at Vancouver Island University (Nanaimo, British Columbia)

Duties include:

Develop and prepare lessons; instruct, assess and grade student achievement in Economics courses in the Faculty of Management at the undergraduate, and possibly graduate, level. Assist students individually through scheduled office hours.

The faculty member should possess the requisite experience and expertise to teach undergraduate/graduate courses in the Economics Department. The Department instructs courses for two Majors and a Minor in Economics, courses that contribute to other undergraduate programs, and core components of graduate credentials, including a Graduate Certificate in Business and an MBA.

Representative courses may include:
ECON 100 Intro to Economics
ECON 212 Principles of Macroeconomic Theory
GCIB 503 Business Economics
MBAA 542 Economics 4 - Advanced Topics in Economics

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Qualifications:

A Doctoral degree (or ABD) in the field of Economics with a focus supportive of the noted instructional area from an appropriately accredited institution, requisite experience and expertise in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the noted subject areas; relevant applied professional business experience; and a record of engaging in scholarly activity. NOTE: A Master's Degree in a related field plus relevant experience may be considered. The successful candidate will have a strong focus on teaching and student learning, demonstrated competency working effectively in a team-oriented environment and will be responsive to diverse learning styles, cultural and academic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

International business experience; relevant research presentations and publications; professional memberships; relevant applied certifications.
