The Department of Economics, Management and Quantitative Methods (DEMM) is recruiting at the post-doc level in Economics beginning at the latest in October 2022. Candidates should have completed a doctorate by this date. The Department is interested in applicants with the capability to publish in leading journals in economics. An established track record of publications in top generalist or top field journals is appreciated but not required at this stage. We welcome applications from all areas of economics. The successful candidate shall contribute to the research excellence of the Department: candidates are expected to have a well-developed research agenda and to be willing to cooperate with resident fellow academics on projects of mutual interest. Teaching is not a mandatory component of this post; however, a limited opportunity for this activity could be arranged, should the successful candidate be interested in developing this aspect of their c.v.

The University of Milan is a major research and teaching institution located in one of Europe’s most thriving cities. According to RepEc, the Department of Economics, Management, and Quantitative Methods – DEMM - is one of the leading departments of economics in Italy. The recent Italian research assessment exercise (VQR 2011-2014) placed DEMM among the top 10 departments in the area of economics, management and statistics in Italy. In 2018, DEMM was selected as one of the “Departments of Excellence” (Dipartimento di Eccellenza) by the Italian ministry of education (MIUR), and was awarded a generous grant to set up the Centre of Excellence in Economics and Data Science (CEEDS) and a new Experimental Lab.

The baseline net salary is about 19,000 € (gross salary: 21,000 €, tax exempt but subject to 11% social security contributions) per annum for two years (renewable for two more years) plus a net mobility allowance - for researchers of any nationality who obtained their PhD from a non-Italian institution - of about 6,400 € (gross allowance: 7,200 €, tax exempt but subject to 11% social security contributions) per annum for the first two years since appointment.

Language: All research activities within the department are carried out in English.

Deadline and Selection Process: Applications must be received by November 19, 2021. Interviews will take place on-line: shortlisted candidates will be invited to present their research in a webinar or seminar, depending on travel restrictions at the time.
