Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Economics (Teaching and Scholarship)

Location: Bristol, UK

The School of Economics at the University of Bristol is seeking to fill several academic posts in high calibre staff to expand the school’s academic profile in all fields in line with growth in our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. We are recruiting on both our Research and teaching pathway (research focused pathway 1) and on our Teaching and Scholarship pathway (education focused pathway 3).

The School of Economics at the University of Bristol is ranked 6th among all UK Economics Departments for research excellence (REF 2014). Hosted in one of the Russel Group elite research intensive universities, the School enjoys a strong research culture within a diverse and collegial environment. With more than 70 full time academics, is a centre of excellence in both research and teaching, with a thriving cluster of academics involved in theoretical, quantitative, and applied research in all areas of economics, and in developing education pedagogy. The university is a world-class centre for advanced computing systems with a number of high-performance clusters, including one of the first ARM based supercomputers in the world, available for quantitative and data intensive research.

The School is research-led, with a focus on high quality research and teaching in all areas of Economics and is well connected to the UK and the rest of the world.

We are looking to appoint Associate Professors in Economics who will contribute to our strong economics research profile and who show a commitment to excellent teaching and are able to shape economics education within the School and beyond.

Applicants should have a strong research background with evidence of an ability to publish in the very top international economic journals and excellent teaching (for pathway 1 appointments), and an aptitude to teach to the highest standards at both Undergraduate and Masters level and to engage in scholarly activities to innovate teaching and to shape economics education (for pathway 3 appointments).

Holding a PhD in Economics or a related discipline, candidates are expected to have a sustained record of high quality publications and evidence of the ability to gain external research funding as PI (pathway 1), or hold a recognised higher education teaching qualification, a sustained record of pedagogic research or significant impact through other scholarship activities within economics education, such as contributing to curriculum development, leading student engagement activities and/or facilitating staff development and training.
