The Faculty of Economics of the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), Lugano - Switzerland, invites applications from candidates of international research standing for a position in Applied Economics. A position at the Assistant Professor level is with tenure-track.
Outstanding applications from all areas within economics will be considered. The faculty is particularly interested in applications from empirical researchers.
The new professor will be expected to conduct research in her/his interest area, to contribute to our undergraduate and master’s programs, supervise doctoral students, and participate in the activities of the Faculty and University.
The Faculty of Economics of USI provides a young and dynamic environment with strong research competences in the areas of economics, finance, and management. The position is affiliated with the Institute of Economics (IdEP), which coordinates research and teaching in economics. The Institute is a research active group with main research interests in applied economics and economic policy.
Professors reside in the Ticino Canton, which is part of the Italian-speaking area of Switzerland. The new professor is expected to provide consistent participation in the academic activities of the university.

The candidate’s profile
The ideal candidate demonstrates has already published in top economics journals or shows the potential to achieve such publications within the tenure-track period. She or he demonstrates willingness to actively participate in the development of her/his area and of the institution. Fluency in Italian is encouraged within a reasonable amount of time to be able to contribute to undergraduate teaching. The required academic qualification is a doctoral degree (PhD).
Salary and teaching load
The salary is within a range established by University regulations. The exact amount will be defined depending on experience and academic qualifications. A full-time Professorship corresponds to 168 teaching hours a year. A teaching hour is 45 minutes. The teaching load of an Assistant Professors is reduced by close to 50%.
