Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO, an EQUIS-accredited private business school ranked 44-62 in three categories in the Financial Times World Business School Rankings, invites applications for the position of a Professor of Economics.

In 2022 MSM SKOLKOVO will be launching its first baccalaureate program, the Bachelor of Business Administration, a dual degree program with the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Russia’s highest ranked university in physical sciences. We are looking for faculty in social sciences and the humanities to balance out the scientific and business dimensions of the program.

The ideal candidate has broad research and teaching interests and is willing to work together with faculty from other disciplines to design a pathbreaking business program that blends STEM disciplines, humanities, social sciences, and business disciplines in a systematic and innovative manner.

The appointment will involve teaching in the bachelor program, some teaching in SKOLKOVO postgraduate programs, as well as doing publishable research. A part-time appointment (with at least 6-month annual residency in Moscow) can be considered. A PhD from a reputable university is required, the knowledge of Russian is not needed.

The rank is open; the internationally competitive salary and benefits will be individually determined based on qualifications, experience, and the potential contribution to SKOLKOVO.

TEACHING AT SKOLKOVO BBA

SKOLKOVO BBA will be a highly selective and academically intensive program that will combine broad interdisciplinary education with immersion in practice. It will seek to prepare intra- and entrepreneurs in various areas of business, as well as in nonprofit and government sectors. Becoming transformative leaders presupposes depth of understanding, futurist mindset and capacity for action, as well as a wide variety of soft and hard skills, which SKOLKOVO BBA will strive to develop in its students.

While the BBA curriculum is still in the design stage, it is certain to:

    • employ heterogeneous educational frameworks (liberal arts and sciences, problem- and inquiry- based learning, vocational training);
    • use need-blind admission to ensure quality, diversity and equal access;
    • be international in terms of both its faculty and student body and its intellectual scope;
    • involve extensive internships in Russian and international companies from the SKOLKOVO ecosystem.

In distinction to many business programs worldwide, SKOLKOVO BBA will seek to closely integrate courses in social sciences and the humanities with its business and science courses. We do not consider these courses a mere general education supplement to the main curriculum, so we seek faculty in social sciences and the humanities who will be motivated to transform the courses they teach to make them instrumental for business education without losing their depth and rigor.

Full-time faculty will be expected to teach an equivalent of 2+2 teaching load spread across BBA and SKOLKOVO postgraduate professional programs.

RESEARCH EXPECTATIONS

SKOLKOVO faculty will be required to keep an active research profile and produce a steady publication output. While incoming faculty will be welcome to continue with their current research projects, we will be encouraging them to gradually develop new research competencies and get involved in the research projects relevant to SKOLKOVO broad research agenda. We are particularly interested in our faculty forming interdisciplinary research teams with other SKOLKOVO faculty, both incoming and existing, to produce unconventional research outcomes that will help strengthen SKOLKOVO’s international reputation in research.

REQUIREMENTS OF APPLICANTS

  • Candidates must have a PhD (or be due to receive their degree by 31 July 2022) from an internationally recognized university.
  • A track record of publications and/or a promising research agenda is required.
  • Candidates should have some teaching experience, preferably at the undergraduate level.
  • Candidates must have fluent English; knowledge of Russian is not required.
  • Candidates must be able and willing to work together with faculty from diverse disciplines to design and implement a structured interdisciplinary curriculum.
  • Candidates must be ready to relocate to Moscow to take up the position. Part-time appointments with a minimal residential requirement of 6 months a year can also be considered.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

In most cases, the 3-year renewable appointments will be offered. Salary and benefits will be based on qualification, experience, and potential. MSM SKOLKOVO pays internationally competitive salaries and provides its faculty with excellent working conditions in its Kazimir Malevich-inspired campus just across Moscow ring road.
