The Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance is a member institute of the Max Planck Society. It provides access to an outstanding research infrastructure and sound financial resources for research. It has two academic departments. The department of Public Economics consists of researchers whose professional background is economics and who have their professional training in this field. The Department pursues basic research in the area of Public Economics / Political Economy - described as the study of the origin, the functioning and the financing of the state and other polities or private groups, and their interaction.

Senior Research Fellow (Post-doc) in Public Economics (f/m/d)

The department of Public Economics, headed by Prof. Kai A. Konrad invites applications by researchers with excellent skills in economic theory as well as in experimental internet-survey-based research to apply for a position as postdoc. Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. in economics, or be close to finishing their PhD, and ideally have a strong background in internet based survey experiments. The working language is English. Basic knowledge of German language is nevertheless desirable/useful.

Researchers at the Max Planck Institute are expected to collaborate on ongoing as well as future basic research projects in various subfields in public economics / political economy of conflict, participate in the design of projects, take up responsibility for survey design and implementation, and pursue the publication of their research in leading international scientific journals.

A non-exhaustive but illustrative set of current/ongoing example topics/projects is

• International conflict and competition between nation states

• Intergenerational and international equity and conflict

• Individual attitudes towards state paternalism – its quantification, its causes and its effects

We offer a full-time position. The term of appointment is three years, but can be extended to a maximum of six years. The position does not include teaching obligations. We offer competitive salaries and generous funding for experiments and any other research-targeted activities. Remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD-Bund), EG14 - depending on qualifications and professional experience.
