The School of Management of Politecnico di Milano is looking for one Assistant Professor and one/two Postdocs to work in the area of Economics of Science and Innovation. Politecnico di Milano, with over 45,000 students, is the most outstanding technical university of Italy and among the best technical universities in Europe and in the world. The School of Management (SoM, https://www.som.polimi.it) comprises the Graduate School of Business and the Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering and includes about 200 among faculty members, postdocs and PhD students.
The Assistant Professor and Postdocs will work on the project “Improving Grant Peer Review within a Science of Science Funding”, sponsored by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, in close collaboration with the Principal Investigators Chiara Franzoni and Paula Stephan. The candidates will join the School of Management as part of the Entrepreneurship Finance and Innovation (EFI) group, conducting research in several areas of innovation, finance and entrepreneurship with a variety of approaches and a strong background in quantitative methods. The group provides a friendly, stimulating environment that encourages personal and professional development and is especially supportive of young scholars.
The position is for one Assistant Professor full-time, beginning tentatively in the Spring of 2022 and lasting 3-years. The Postdoc positions are for two-years full time and can begin anytime after December 2021. Tenure track opportunities are possible afterwards.
The ideal candidates hold (or are about to obtain) a PhD in Economics or related subjects and have an interest in Economics of Science and/or Innovation, with a focus on quantitative and/or experimental methods. They should have a strong research background, a demonstrated ability to publish in reputable academic journals and a pipeline of working papers in related subjects.

Compensation: The base salary is regulated by the Italian Ministry of Higher Education (Assistant Prof aprox. ~€36,500 gross/year; Postdoc aprox. ~€30,000 gross/year). Tax exemptions: Assistant Prof. who were residing outside Italy for 2 or more years are entitled to a tax exemption on 90 percent of the salary, in accordance to the Italian tax law; Postdoc salary is tax exempt. Additional compensation and bonuses are possible.
