The Department of Economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna) seeks to recruit a postdoctoral researcher. The Postdoc will work for 2 years in close collaboration with Professor Melis Kartal for a large-scale field study, which is joint work with Professors Sylvia Kritzinger, Pietro Ortoleva, and Jean-Robert Tyran.

The project's focus is a comprehensive analysis of media literacy and the determinants of belief in (fake) news. Hence, the project concerns one of the important and challenging themes of today’s society. The postdoctoral researcher will be involved in tasks, such as (i) the statistical analysis of data from large-scale multi-country surveys and experiments, and (ii) the development of theoretical models to explore the links between belief in news and various potentially important factors.

Candidates should have or be in the process of obtaining a PhD in Economics or related fields. Candidates are expected to have expertise in empirical research, preferably on experimental or survey data. Starting date is flexible, but latest on September 2022. The position involves no teaching responsibilities. Knowledge of German is not required. The project is funded by the Austrian National Bank.

The successful applicant will benefit from participation in a vibrant research environment, which is home to many researchers working in behavioral economics, experimental economics, psychology and economics, political economy, and microeconomics. Vienna is a beautiful city with a very high quality of living. It hosts a large and still growing economics community at WU Vienna, U of Vienna, IHS Vienna as well as the new CEU Vienna campus.

Applicants should submit

  • a CV
  • a cover letter,
  • a job market paper, and
  • copies of or links to up to two research papers (optional);

and must arrange for two letters of recommendation to be submitted online at http://www.econjobmarket.org. Application deadline is Feb 10, 2022. For further information about the position, please contact Melis Kartal (melis.kartal@wu.ac.at).
