Project Descriptions

Advancing difference-in-differences methods for unpoolable data: This project seeks to develop "best practices" for conducting DiD analyses when data are siloed by jurisdiction (treatment group). Our team, experts in econometrics, health economics, and health services and policy research, will develop methods to generate DiD estimates using econometric/statistical theory, simulated data, survey data that are not siloed across jurisdictions, and siloed administrative health data. The methods developed by this project will be relevant for both Canadian interprovincial comparisons and international comparisons. Advanced econometric and/or statistical programming skills would be especially useful for this project.

Generating real-world evidence to support learning health systems in cancer care: This group of projects aims to improve methods for and increase the production of evidence to improve cancer care and patient outcomes. Diverse opportunities include analysis of linked cancer registry, health care utilization, and socioeconomic databases, quasi-experimental evaluation of clinical and policy interventions, developing economic evaluation methods for precision oncology, and collaboration with health care system decisionmakers.

Responsibilities

The postdoctoral researcher will be engaged in all aspects of research and will be integrated as a member of the relevant research team. The emphasis will be on leading and co-authoring manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, developing analytic plans, and conducting data analysis. Other responsibilities may include developing statistical software, developing grant/research proposals, and conducting background research, depending on the project and the researcher’s interests.

Length of position/ information about probationary period

The position is full-time fixed term for 1 year, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period. Renewal for a second year is possible, depending on funding and performance.

Residence in Quebec is required as a condition of employment. The postdoctoral researcher may not hold another position of employment, or academic affiliation of any kind with another institution.

Competitive salary from $40,000-$60,000 CAD, plus benefits. Actual salary will depend on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and progress.
