CATOLICA LISBON, School of Business and Economics invites applications for a one or two-year postdoctoral scholar. The position is targeted towards candidates with an interest in Applied Economics, Labor economics, International trade, Firm Dynamics, Development Economics or Public Economics. Expertise in causal impact evaluation and used of large administrative longitudinal matched employer-employee datasets will be a plus.
This position
The postdoc will engage in original, world-class research in collaboration with the PROSPER Director (Joana Silva) and researchers at LSE, Northwestern University and the World Bank; and to develop research to be submitted to leading peer review journals on the long-run effects of crises on workers and firms, and the impact of social programs. To do so, activities include causal impact studies (including both new experimental and quasi experimental studies). The selected candidate will conduct academic research in the field of Applied Economics, with a strong quantitative component.
Key responsibilities include data management, analysis, writing of publications, promotion of research outputs and relevant findings, and mentoring of predoctoral fellows.
The postdoc will have time and be encouraged to pursue his or her own research agenda.
The successful candidate will have previous experience in conducting empirical research, designing casual impact evaluations or measurement experiments, or have an alternative methodological expertise of relevance to PROSPER’s work program; have solid understanding of causal inference and measurement challenges in applied micro-econometrics, research design; and have the ability to work in teams and to carry out independent research. You should be proactive and reliable, with experience coordinating teams and managing a variety of tasks.
The postdoc will participate in academic life at CATOLICA Lisbon and be encouraged to explore synergies with related research initiatives and teams.
CATOLICA Lisbon offers an exciting research environment. The position comes with no teaching or administrative duties, but the postdoc will have opportunities to work with research fellows and students. Depending on the selected candidate personal preferences, he/she may be offered the opportunity to teach one or two courses at the graduate or post-graduate level. Salary is competitive in Europe. The PhD should be completed or duly planned by the date of the appointment. Knowledge of Portuguese is NOT required.
