Opportunity

The Melbourne Institute: Applied Economic & Social Research is Australia’s leading applied economics and social policy research institute. It has a longstanding history of rigorous study and analysis of economic and social issues affecting broader society. Areas of research include labour markets and employment, family economics, social disadvantage, health economics and markets, education and child development, macroeconomics, and public economics.

The Principal Research Fellow or Professorial Fellow will be a key member of the leadership team of the Melbourne Institute. You will be expected to provide academic and administrative leadership within the research projects to which you are assigned. You will develop and pursue a research agenda in the area of applied economics, collaborate with members of the Melbourne Institute, prepare academic papers for presentation at major international conferences and submission to leading academic journals.

You will be expected to engage with practitioners, policy analysts and policy makers on topics relations to the research undertaken by you and your staff.

About you

You will have an exceptional record of academic publications, conference papers, reports and/or professional and/or technical contributions, a recognised scholar, as evidenced by a strong publication record, invitations to present your research at national and international conferences, with the capacity to attract substantial independent research funding.

You will possess;

  • A PhD or equivalent in economics or related discipline
  • Academic excellence, expertise and outstanding contribution to research in economics
  • Exceptional record of academic publications, conference papers, reports and/or professional and/or technical contributions
  • A strong track record of obtaining research funds
  • Demonstrated research leadership and management skills
