NATURE OF POSITION: To design a global agricultural production and trade model calibrated to the USDA projections to simulate various economic and climate scenarios. This is a full-time position.

DATE AVAILABLE: The planned start date is August 1, 2023. The appointment is for a period of one year, renewable for an additional year. Further extensions depend on performance and availability of funds.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: The successful candidate will join a team supervised by Prof. Diego S. Cardoso on an exciting project in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture titled “A Global Agricultural Supply-Demand-Climate-Trade Model Calibrated to Baseline.” The appointed Post-Doctoral Research Associate will participate in the development of a novel trade model for global agricultural commodities, lead the software implementation of the model in an open-source environment, and assist in preparing documentation and journal publications. This newly-developed tool will be tested and used by researchers and economists at the USDA.

This postdoc will be housed in the Department of Agricultural Economics and join its vibrant research community. There will be opportunities to collaborate with faculty and staff in the department and its affiliated research centers.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in Agricultural/Resource/Applied Economics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field. Excellent programming skills in R or Julia are required. Knowledge of trade models and prior experience with GitHub are desirable.

SALARY: Commensurate with training and experience.
