Position

The Department of Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology, Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful applicant will hold an Endowed Chair in Agriculture Marketing and Business, with a focus on the co-operative sector. Candidates must demonstrate the potential to achieve distinction in research and teaching, both at the undergraduate and graduate level. The successful candidate will develop a nationally and internationally recognized research agenda, establish a viable externally-funded research program, and teach compelling graduate and undergraduate classes.

The Department has a history of producing high quality research on relevant topics pertaining to agricultural, resource and environmental economics. The successful candidate will contribute to this tradition and build new areas of expertise both individually and as part of collaborative teams composed of people within and outside academia in the area of cooperatives, agriculture, food and natural resource systems.

Established in 1992, the goals of the Endowed Chair are to (1) build research and collaborative relationships between the University and the cooperatives, boards, commissions and other entities of the province in the broad area of extension education in cooperative marketing and business management, (2) enhance the flow of useful information to the cooperatives, boards, commissions and other entities, and the scientific world, (3) enhance teaching to ensure that both undergraduate and graduate students benefit from the expanding knowledge in the area of marketing strategies and business management.

To support these goals, the endowment includes permanent funding to support a faculty salary as well as potential funding to support research activities during the initial years of the appointment.

The successful candidate will have expertise in agricultural cooperatives with a focus on one or more of the following areas: supply chains, industrial organization, market power, consumer behaviour, agricultural marketing and policy. Specific areas of focus might also include: climate change, food security, local food systems, the circular economy, public health, renewable energy, Indigenous communities, and underserved groups in rural and urban locations.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Resource Economics, Environmental Economics, Business Economics, or a closely related field. Candidates must have already completed their PhD, or expect to receive their PhD by July 2023. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
