The Strategy Development Division (SDV) of the Office of Strategic Planning and Development Effectiveness (SPD) of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is looking for several Applied Economists (or professionals in related areas) to work as consultants in Washington DC, with expertise in one of the following areas: social protection, health, education, gender and diversity, labor, firms, technology, capital markets, transport, water and sanitation, agriculture, rural development, climate, environment and natural resource management, energy, citizen security, reform of the state and fiscal management.

We are looking for professionals that will contribute to the development effectiveness activities of the division by (i) providing support to the design and implementation of impact evaluations of IDB’s operations; (ii) participating in the preparation of the Development Effectiveness Overview (DEO), project completion reports, evaluation guidelines, working papers, and other development effectiveness reports; (iii) supporting quality at entry review of projects to be presented to the IDB Board; (iv) supporting results measurement and development effectiveness during project execution; and (v) contributing in a range of technical and sector topics.

Education and experience: minimum a master’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, International Development, Natural Resources and Agricultural Economics, Demography or related field. A Doctoral degree is highly preferable. At least five years of relevant professional and academic experience in program evaluation, applied economics and development economics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

We are looking for motivated individuals with professional experience in impact evaluation and research in development contexts, with preference given to expertise in the areas mentioned above, and with strong computer skills in Stata, and (highly desirable) experience with R, Python, machine learning techniques, and in analyzing GIS data and big data.

Consultants that have worked in this capacity in the division have moved on to staff positions at the IDB, World Bank, and academic institutions. You will be expected to maintain an active research agenda and will be part of a highly dynamic and intellectually challenging environment with ample opportunities for research collaboration and generating publishable work in peer-reviewed journals.

Positions summary:

· Length of contract: 24 months, renewable for up to 12 months, for a maximum of 36 months

Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.

Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB Group.

Languages: Proficiency in at least two of the Bank’s official languages (one being English or Spanish). The official languages are English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.

The team**:** The SPD Office reports to the Executive Vice-President and is charged with providing technical guidance to develop a culture of results within the IDB and to help the IDB innovate its core business, the effectiveness and efficiency of its products and methods over time. The SDV Division is charged with elaborating and proposing strategic directions and analyzing the external effectiveness of the strategic choices made by the institution.
