Department of Economics and the Institute of the Environment
Full-Time Faculty Position (at the rank of Assistant Professor or if applicable, Associate Professor)
The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ottawa invites highly qualified candidates to apply for one (1) tenure track position in the field of Environmental Economics. Candidates with expertise in empirical or theoretical aspects of environmental economics, including climate change, air pollution, natural resources, and energy are sought. The successful candidate will be jointly appointed to the Department of Economics and the Institute of the Environment, and will be expected to supervise graduate students and teach in both units.
Located on the unceded territory of Anishinaabe Algonquin people, in the heart of the nation's capital, the University of Ottawa is one of Canada's top ten research-intensive universities and is recognized as the first and largest bilingual university in North America. It offers its 47,000 students and 5,500 employees a dynamic and stimulating environment where research and knowledge are fundamental to all aspects of university life. The University is situated in close proximity to the Parliament of Canada, multiple national agencies including Environment Canada and Statistics Canada, as well various provincial and municipal agencies.
Duties: The responsibilities of this position include teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervision of graduate students, and a sustained commitment to research. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a strong research program and/or potential, and a commitment to participating in the administrative activities of the units and the Faculty and other activities as specified in the collective agreement. For the Institute of the Environment, a demonstrated interest in policy-relevant research, and ideally experience in policy engagement, will be strong assets. The successful applicant will have opportunity to collaborate with the Smart Prosperity Institute, Canada’s largest environment-economy research institute and think tank, and the policy and research arm of the Institute of the Environment.
Bilingualism: As the University of Ottawa is a bilingual institution, all faculty members in the Faculty of Social Sciences must demonstrate active bilingualism before being granted tenure. The University offers faculty members and their spouse the opportunity to take courses to improve their second language.
Qualifications:
Start date: July 1, 2023
Salary: Tenure-track position. The salary range for an Assistant Professor starts at $88,735 (as of May 1, 2022). The salary range for an Associate Professor starts at $98,019 (as of May 1, 2022).
