Jean Monnet University in Saint-Étienne (France) is recruiting a full professor in a tenured position. The teaching position is at the Saint-Étienne School of Economics and research will be take place within the GATE Lyon Saint-Étienne, a joint research unit involving Jean Monnet University, Lyon 2 University, the ENS de Lyon and the CNRS.

1. Teaching – Saint-Étienne School of Economics

The Saint-Étienne School of Economics is a new teaching unit at Jean Monnet University. It brings together teaching staff and all students enrolled in the bachelor’s and master’s programmes in economics at the University. It is intended to provide a curriculum meeting the highest European standards, building bridges between teaching, professional skills and research. The Saint-Étienne School of Economics seeks to welcome international students. The successful applicant will contribute towards teaching and supervision at all levels, especially in the area of applied microeconomics. The teaching may be fully in English. In addition to their teaching duties, the successful applicant will participate in the development of the School of Economics. In particular, they are expected to develop international teaching partnerships (such as the Erasmus mundus programme) and to undertake program supervision at the master level.

2. Research - GATE Lyon Saint-Étienne (UMR CNRS 5824)

The GATE Lyon Saint-Étienne is a joint research unit involving Jean Monnet University, Lyon 2 University, the ENS de Lyon and CNRS. The GATE Lyon Saint-Étienne brings together approximately one hundred members around four main lines of research: game theory, behavioural economics, macroeconomics and finance, and applied microeconomics (theoretical and empirical). This professor position is in applied microeconomics. A research program which creates potential collaborations in the following fields will be particularly appreciated, although these suggestions are non-binding: economics of innovation, regional and urban economics, environmental economics, development economics, public economics and international economics. Applicants should demonstrate a strong scientific profile documented by publications in highly ranked international journals and a successful record of attracting external research funding, research supervision and leadership experience.

3. The position

The position is a tenured full professorship. The salary is attractive (classification according to the French Ministry of Research and Higher Education: https://www.emploitheque.org/grille-indiciaire-etat-Professeurs-des-universites-33) with additional premiums.

The starting salary will be calculated on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration the applicant’s previous career and current income.

A “start-up package” can be negotiated, which will potentially include:

- a starting fund of €60k

- a 1/3 teaching load waiver for four years

- a PhD scholarship to recruit a PhD student

Courses in French will be offered if needed.

The recruitment procedure will take place in early 2023 (generally in March), in line with the

French academic calendar. The position will start in September 2023.
