The Department of Economics at the University of Trieste is looking to hire a Research Associate (Assegnista di ricerca) to work on original applied empirical research in the public economics of health and ageing, with Dr. Ludovico Carrino (University of Trieste, King’s College London) and an international team of researchers led by the University of Southern California. The offer is for two years with possible extension for a third year. Yearly salary: € 24320 (no income tax).

The key objective of the job is to contribute to the coordination and research activities of the University of Trieste (Department of Economics) within the project “Long-Term Care policies and their impact on population welfare - G2AGING” in an international consortium led by the University of Southern California (NIH award 2R01AG030153-17; SCON-00004263).

The successful applicant will:

  1. review European legislations and reforms on Long Term Care programmes (e.g., eligibility rules for public in-kind or in-cash programmes), carry out interviews and communicate with local or international organisations to identify data on LTC policies, work with the consortium research team to develop a harmonised database of LTC policies that can be linked to the datasets (especially SHARE and ELSA) available in the Gateway to Global Aging data G2AGING on the website www.g2aging.com, lead the preparation of reports and outputs of the project;
  2. carry out literature reviews and quantitative/econometric analysis on microdata from the G2AGING platform (e.g., SHARE and ELSA) on the impact of LTC legislations on population welfare (e.g., health inequalities.

    Essential or desirable requirements:

  • Master in Economics or other relevant social science is essential.
  • PhD in Economics or other relevant social science is desirable.
  • Knowledge of health economics literature (especially Long-Term Care), survey data analysis and microeconometrics is desirable.
