Definite Term Lecturer, Arts & Business Program

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Waterloo invites applications for a three-year Definite Term Lecturer position, with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2023. This position will support the Arts & Business program.

The Arts & Business program (https://uwaterloo.ca/arts/undergraduate/programs/honours-arts-and-business) is a vital part of the Faculty of Arts: fifteen hundred students are registered in the program in any given year. Students in the Arts & Business program choose one of the 30 majors we offer in the Faculty of Arts and match it with an interdisciplinary business education. Waterloo (https://uwaterloo.ca/about/) is Canada’s leading comprehensive university. It is well known for its co-op focused education model and for providing students in all disciplines with the opportunity to obtain a business-related joint major. At Waterloo, you will have the opportunity to work across disciplines and collaborate with an international community of scholars and a diverse student body.

We encourage applications from candidates with a graduate degree, preferably a PhD, in a business-related field. Preference will be given to candidates with business work experience and/or evidence of successful teaching in business-related courses.

Successful candidates will be appointed to one of the following departments: Economics, Political Science, or Psychology. The candidate will teach up to one course per year for their home department. The position involves teaching six courses per year scheduled in the fall, winter, and spring terms, including one term in six as a non-teaching term. It is anticipated that the Definite Term Lecturer will teach several sections in the Arts and Business program, including one or more of ARBUS 200, 300 or 400, which cover entrepreneurship, practical business skills and strategic business decision making, and participate in continued development in pedagogy. The responsibilities of the position are divided between teaching (80%) and service (20%). Service duties include participation in the development and refinement of courses and program curriculum, and service to the department, faculty, university, profession, or community.

The salary range for this position at the rank of Lecturer is $80,000 to $130,000. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates. The closing date for applications is May 23, 2023. Application materials will be submitted through https://ofas.uwaterloo.ca and should include:

• Letter of application

• Complete CV

• Evidence of teaching effectiveness, including a one-page teaching statement, as well as any or all of the following: peer evaluations of teaching, sample syllabi, teaching evaluations

• Applicants are encouraged to identify the ways their teaching, research or service advances equity, anti-racism and inclusion

• Three confidential letters of recommendation addressed to: Dr. Emmanuelle Piérard, Arts and Business Program Director, University of Waterloo, submitted through https://ofas.uwaterloo.ca.

If you have any questions regarding the position, the application process, assessment process, or eligibility, please contact Dr. Emmanuelle Piérard (emma.pierard@uwaterloo.ca), Arts and Business Program Director.
