The University of Southampton ranks in the top 1% of world Universities and is one of the UK’s top 15 research intensive universities. The Economics Department has an outstanding reputation for high quality applied and theoretical research in all core areas of Economics. Our research is structured around four broadly defined and interconnected research groups: applied economics, econometrics, economic theory/experimental economics, and macroeconomics. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF) conducted in 2021, 100% of our research environment, 100% of our impact initiatives, and 93% of our research outputs were rated as internationally excellent and above.

The successful applicant will be expected to undertake a leadership role in their area of expertise and support the strategic objectives of the Department. This includes developing and maintaining a high quality research agenda that leads to publications in top-tier journals, leading grant applications, teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervising Masters and PhD students, and contributing to the management and administration of the Department.

Successful applicants should have a PhD in Economics or an equivalent qualification and be able to satisfy all the essential criteria detailed in the job description. The successful candidate will be expected to start in October 2023 but a later starting date may be negotiable.
