Research Assistant (Centre for the Study of African Economies)

Grade 6: £31,502 - £37,386 per annum

CSAE, Department of Economics, Manor Road Building, Oxford. OX1 3UQ

The project is integrated within the Oxford Martin School’s Systemic Resilience programme, which aims to advance practical solutions to manage shocks with the potential for major and prolonged economic disruption, severe human or economic impacts, and contagion. It brings together academics specialising in biophysical modelling, risk analysis, transboundary resources and infrastructure, development, disaster preparedness and economics to reflect the high complexity and interdependencies of the systems involved. Professor Dercon, (University of Oxford), Dr Ashley Pople (World Bank), and Rocco Zizzamia (University of Oxford) are leading the stream within the project which focuses on the design of early warning and action innovations to identify cost-effective solutions for strengthening household resilience to climate shocks.

This position is a great opportunity for those hoping to go on to doctoral work in economics or public policy or a career in international development in the civil service, NGOs or thinktanks. It provides excellent exposure for the applicant’s future career, specifically through oversight of a large-scale randomized control trials implemented in collaboration with governments, international organizations, and NGOs. The post-holder would gain access to the broader CSAE research centre, including attending seminars and conferences and potentially taking some courses not for credit.

This is 1 year, fixed-term contract (externally funded) post.

The closing date for applications is GMT12 noon June, 09, 2023.

Applications should be made via Econjobmarket and should include a CV, a supporting statement, together with the names and contact details of three references.
