Postdoc in Economics

DEPARTMENT: Department of Economics

CONTRACT: maximum duration contract 2 years (June 2024 until May 2026)

ACTIVITY RATE: 80%

The Role:

The successful applicant is expected to carry out research and contribute to research projects in the areas of labor economics, education and migration, under the supervision of Professor Martina Viarengo. This position is financed by the National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) “On the Move”.

NCCRs promote long-term research networks in areas of strategic importance for Swiss science, the Swiss economy and Swiss society. The NCCR – On the Move is the National Center of Competence in Research for migration and mobility studies. It aims to enhance the understanding of contemporary phenomena related to migration and mobility in Switzerland and beyond. Transcending disciplines, the NCCR brings together research projects from the social sciences, economics and law. Managed from the University of Neuchâtel, the network includes eight higher education institutions in Switzerland. The NCCRs promote long-term research networks in areas of strategic importance for Swiss science, the Swiss economy and Swiss society.

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Ph.D in Economics or related fields
  • Areas of expertise: economics, applied econometrics, migration
  • Promising publication record
  • Excellent command of econometric and statistical software (e.g. Stata, R)
  • Excellent oral and written command of English (knowledge of French would be an asset)

The position is based at the Geneva Graduate Institute with periodical travels to the University of Neuchâtel. The initial appointment will be for a year, with a possibility of extension.
