The Department of Public Economics of the Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance has a vacancy for the following position to start as soon as possible:

Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/div)

The Department of Public Economics conducts basic research in the area of public economics and the political economy of governance.

The department seeks to strengthen the team in two major areas of research. One area is in the “Geoeconomic Conflict and Competition between the U.S. and China” that is played out through the means of trade policy, tax policy, and industrial policy, the second area on “Preferences on Paternalism: Causes and Consequences”. The prospective appointee is expected to engage in thematic research in one of these two fields.

The institute is a member institute of the Max Planck Society (MPG). The MPG is one of the world­wide leading international research institutions. The institute has an excellent research infra­structure, an inter­national and strong team of researchers, and a sound financial situation.

Your profile

The ideal candidate has excellent knowledge in the field of applied game theory / international public economics / political economy or formal / quantitative analysis in political science. The applicant has completed (or is about to complete) a PhD in the field of economics or political science on a topic that is related to one of the research topics mentioned above. A strong theory background and/or know­ledge and experience in the design, programming, and evaluation of laboratory-based or internet-based experiments is desirable. Fluency in written and spoken English is expec­ted, com­mand of the German language is an advantage.

Our offer

The position is meant to give the researcher the opportunity to qualify for positions with higher senio­rity at universities and research institutions through scientific work and publishing. The position is limited to three years. Remuneration is based on qualifications and professional experience accor­ding to the Collec­tive Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD Bund). In addition, social benefits are gran­ted according to the regulations for the public service (Bund).
